Chapter 47 The Scandal That Shook Both Families

“So, Steven, you have no objections to their marriage then?” Richard asked.

The Gibson family had many children, and Alicia’s prospects had never been the most outstanding. When Richard had once made that bet with her, he had barely meant it-more a casual remark to placate her. He never imagined she would actually succeed in winning over Austin in such a short time.

And Austin wasn’t just anyone. His position and influence far outshone David’s. While David was still seen as an impulsive heir, Austin had already built a formidable reputation overseas. The difference between them was like night and day.

Steven laughed heartily. “Tasha always liked Alicia-she wouldn’t stop praising her to me. It’s just that my useless grandson wasn’t lucky enough to marry such a good girl. But seeing it now, I think my son and Alicia make quite the pair. Talented and beautiful, a perfect match. Why would I object?”

Clearly, someone had done some quiet persuasion behind the scenes-those posts on social media hadn’t been for nothing.

Alicia herself felt as if she were dreaming. She had half expected Steven to make things difficult for her, but instead, everything had gone unbelievably smoothly.

“That’s wonderful,” Richard said with a pleased grin. “I also think they make a fine couple. The sooner we finalize everything, the better.”

Just as the two patriarchs were about to continue their pleasant talk, the butler hurried in and whispered something into Steven’s ear. Though he spoke quietly, the room was small enough that everyone nearby could catch bits of it.

Steven’s expression darkened instantly. “Which Ms. Gibson?” he demanded.

“Ms. Aria,” the butler replied nervously. “Somehow, she ended up… in bed with Mr. David. And, well- someone from the media caught them on camera.”

Steven slammed the prayer beads in his hand onto the table. “Outrageous! That foolish brat-he’s barely home for a day and he’s already causing trouble!”

Richard turned grim. He valued reputation above all else and had never liked his mistress of a daughter-in- law or her illegitimate daughter. He’d only tolerated them because Kyana had given birth to a son.

“They were photographed? Suppress it immediately! If this leaks, both our families will be humiliated beyond repair.”

“Don’t worry, Sir,” the butler said quickly. “We’ve already handled it. The footage won’t get out.”

Steven’s voice thundered, “Tell that idiot grandson of mine to get home this instant!”

Richard’s tone was just as icy. “And bring Aria here as well.”

It was one thing to fool around in private, but to drag both families’ names through the mud-no one would tolerate that.
