Chapter 100
Chapter 100
Isabella’s POV
:
When I woke up the next day, it was with a splitting headache that felt like punishment.

It throbbed behind my eyes, dull and relentless, the kind that made it hard to tell where my body ended and the bed began.
I’d hardly slept last night. Every time I tried, Nico’s eyes would flash in my mind and I would wake up crying. Dominic was right there each time, shushing me and lulling me back to sleep, only for me to wake up yet again.
It hadn’t been until Dominic had given me a pill to relax me that I’d finally fallen into a dreamless sleep.
For a few seconds after I woke up, I stayed very still, staring at the ceiling, willing myself to get up.
I still had Mateo to take care of.
Shit. Mateo.
I pushed myself upright too quickly, dizziness washing over me. What time was it? Why was it so quiet? How much had I overslept? Had he missed school?
Guilt hit fast and sharp. This was just another failure to add to the list.
Before I could spiral further, the door opened.
Dominic stepped inside, carrying a small tray. He looked tired. Not unshaven or disheveled, just worn around the edges, like he hadn’t slept much either. With me waking up every few minutes, he obviously hadn’t.
“Easy,” he said softly, crossing the room. “You’re awake.”
I swallowed. “Mateo-”
“He’s fine,” Dominic said immediately, as if he’d been waiting for that exact word. “I already called his school. Told them he wasn’t coming in today.”
My chest loosened just a fraction.
“You did?” I asked, my voice hoarse.
He nodded. “I told him you weren’t feeling well, that you’re resting. He understood.” A pause. “I also called your office. They’re fine with you taking the day off.”
I glanced towards the door that led outside, anxiety still buzzing under my skin.
“He’s had breakfast,” Dominic added gently. “Maria took him out to the pool.”
I nodded slowly. “Okay.”

He set the tray down on the bedside table. It had Advil, a glass of water, and a bowl of cut fruit. Bright colors. Cheerful. Completely at odds with how I felt inside.
“Take this,” he said, handing me the pill.
I did, swallowing it with the water without argument. I needed that for my headache.
Dominic picked up a piece of fruit and held it out to me. “Eat.”
I shook my head. “I’m not hungry.”
“You don’t have to be,” he said. “Just a little.”
“I can’t,” I whispered. My stomach churned at the thought.
He didn’t push. Not immediately. He just waited, watching me with that steady patience that somehow made everything worse.
Finally, I sighed and leaned forward, biting into the fruit. It tasted like nothing.
He gave me another piece. I hesitated, then took it.
“That’s enough,” I said after a few bites.
“For now,” he agreed, setting the bowl aside.
He sat beside me on the bed. “How are you feeling?”
The question cracked something open.
The images surged without warning, blood on the asphalt, Nico’s body hitting the ground, his eyes staring at nothing. My breath hitched.
“I-” My voice broke. Tears welled before I could stop them. “I don’t know.”
The sob came out sharp and ugly.
Dominic stiffened for half a second, then pulled me into his arms, holding me tight. “Hey. Hey. It’s okay.”
It wasn’t.
I cried harder, my body shaking as the guilt finally found a way out. “I killed him,” I whispered into his chest. “I actually killed someone.”
His arms tightened. “It’s okay.”
“I keep thinking about it,” I went on, words tumbling out. “I keep seeing his face. I don’t know how I’m supposed to live with that.”
He stroked my hair, slow and steady. “You don’t have to figure that out right now.”

“I didn’t have the right,” I said through tears. “I don’t get to decide who lives or dies.”
Dominic was quiet for a moment. Then he shifted slightly, reaching for his phone.
“There’s something you should see,” he said carefully.
I pulled back just enough to look at him, confusion mixing with dread. “What?”
He hesitated for a moment, but then showed me the screen.
Photos.
Women.
Bruises. Cuts. Fear frozen in their eyes.
My stomach dropped.

“Nico wasn’t just a loudmouth,” Dominic said quietly. “I had Eduardo run a background check on him after last night. He was a predator. Rape. Torture. Multiple women. This is what he did.”
I stared at the images, horror crawling up my spine. My breathing turned shallow.
“Oh God,” I whispered.
“He would have done it again,” Dominic continued. “He always did.”
The tears slowed, not stopping, but changing. Something in my chest loosened, just a little.
“He was evil,” Dominic said, his voice firm but gentle. “You didn’t hurt an innocent life.”
I shook my head weakly. “That doesn’t make it right.”
“No,” he agreed. “But there was a bounty on his head. Someone was sure to come after him soon.”
I leaned back against him, exhausted. The images burned into my mind, overlapping with Nico’s lifeless eyes until I didn’t know which memory hurt more.
“I still pulled the trigger,” I murmured. “I still did that.”
He pressed a kiss to my temple. “And you did it to save someone. To save me.”
That didn’t erase the guilt. It didn’t absolve me.
Nothing could.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get over this,” I said quietly.
Dominic didn’t lie. “Maybe not. But you’ll learn how to live with it.”
I stared at the wall, my thoughts drifting somewhere dark and uncertain.

Chapter 100
Was this the life I wanted?
Violence. Blood. Death.
But then another thought followed, relentless and inescapable.
It had been him or Dominic.
And I hadn’t hesitated.
I closed my eyes, tears slipping silently down my cheeks.
What was done was done.
Now, I had no choice but to live with it.
