Dominic’s POV

The silence that followed the doctor’s words felt heavier than anything I had ever experienced, as though the air in the room had thickened, pressing down on my chest in a way that made it difficult to breathe properly.

I had not moved. I had not spoken. Because everything inside me was still trying to process what I had found out today.

She was pregnant. With our child. Again.

And then, he spoke.

“This can’t happen again.”

The words were soft, barely above a whisper, but they hit harder than anything else had.

My stomach dropped instantly. A sharp, cold dread settling deep inside me.

What did that mean?

I turned towards her fully, my gaze locking onto her face, trying to read something-anything-that would make sense of what she had just said.

“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended, but edged with something I couldn’t quite control.

Her eyes were still distant, unfocused, like she was looking through something rather than at it.

“What do you mean it can’t happen again?”

She didn’t answer immediately. That silence stretched just long enough for my mind to go somewhere I didn’t want it to.

A possibility I wasn’t prepared to face.

My chest tightened.

“You don’t want the baby?” I asked, the words coming out before I could stop them.

The moment they left my mouth, something inside me twisted. Because I didn’t know if I was ready to hear the answer.

Her head snapped towards me then, her expression shifting instantly, and she shook her head quickly.

“No. 1-” she stopped, her voice faltering. “I don’t know.”

That answer didn’t ease anything. If anything, it made everything heavier.

“I didn’t expect this,” she continued, her voice trembling now, her composure beginning to crack in a way I hadn’t seen in a long time.

“Nothing in my life feels settled right now, Dominic,” she said, her eyes finally meeting mine, and there was something raw there, something vulnerable that made my chest ache.

“How am I supposed to bring another life into this?” she asked, her voice breaking slightly at the edges.

Tears gathered in her eyes. And that broke something inside me completely.

Because I knew. I knew exactly why she felt this way. And it had nothing to do with the child.

It had everything to do with me. With the chaos I had brought back into her life. With the decisions I had made. With the way I had torn everything apart and then tried to step back into it like I still had a place there.

This was my fault. Every bit of it.

I had destabilized her life again, forced her into situations she hadn’t chosen, put her under pressure she didn’t deserve. And now she was standing here, overwhelmed, scared, and uncertain about something that should have been something else. Something better. Something safe.

My jaw tightened slightly as the realization settled deeper.

She was right. This was unexpected. This was overwhelming. And she had every right to feel the way she did.

Because at the end of the day, this wasn’t just my child. This was her body. Her life. Her reality to carry.

I let out a slow breath, forcing myself to push everything else aside. My wants, my instincts, my need to hold onto this, none of that mattered right now.

What mattered was her.

“Hey,” I said quietly, my voice softer now, steadier, as I stepped a little closer to her. “You don’t have to decide anything right now.”

She looked at me, her eyes shining with unshed tears, like she was barely holding herself together.

“I know this is overwhelming,” I continued, keeping my tone calm, grounded, even though everything inside me felt anything but. “It’s unexpected. It’s a lot.”

Her lower lip trembled slightly.

“And I’m not asking you to figure it out today.”

Something in her expression shifted then. Not relief. Not exactly. But something loosened. Just slightly.

“You have time,” I said gently. “All the time you need. And whatever you decide…” I paused for a fraction of a second, the weight of those words settling heavily inside me, because I meant them. Even if they cost me more than I was ready to admit.

“I’ll support you.”

Her breath hitched.

“I’ll be there,” I added quietly. “For everything.”

I held her gaze as I said it, letting her see that I meant it.

“That includes….” I exhaled slowly. “If you don’t want this.”

The words felt heavier than anything I had ever said. But I didn’t take them back. Because this wasn’t about me. This was about her.

And I would not make the same mistake twice.

“I would love to have this child with you,” I admitted, my voice dropping slightly, more honest now, more vulnerable than I usually allowed myself to be. “I would be there for you. For every step. For everything.”

My throat tightened slightly. “But if you don’t want this, then I won’t force you either.”

Silence fell between us again.

And then, she broke. Not loudly. Not dramatically. But completely.

Tears spilled over, one after the other, her composure collapsing in a way that made something inside my chest tighten painfully.

I froze for half a second.

Did I say something wrong? Did I push too far?

But then she covered her face, her shoulders shaking, and instinct took over before thought could catch up.

I moved forward, closed the distance between us, and wrapped my arms around her.

She didn’t resist. That alone told me everything.

I pulled her closer gently, one hand coming up to cradle the back of her head, pressing her lightly against my chest as I held her.

“It’s okay,” I murmured softly. “I’ve got you.”

She cried harder. And I held her through it. Rocking her slightly, back and forth, slow and steady, like I was trying to ground her, to anchor her to something solid when everything around her felt like it was slipping.

“You don’t have to decide anything right now,” I repeated quietly. “Not today. Not tomorrow. Not until you’re ready.”

Her hands gripped the fabric of my shirt, like she needed something to hold onto.

“And whatever you choose,” I continued, my voice low and certain, “I’ll stand by you.”

I meant it. Every word. No conditions. No expectations. Just her.

Slowly, gradually, her crying eased. Her breathing steadied. The tension in her body softened slightly.

She pulled back after a while, wiping at her face, avoiding my gaze.

“I need to go home,” she said quietly. “I need to be with Mateo.”

I nodded immediately. “Of course. I’ll take you—”

“No.” The word came quickly, soft but firm. She shook her head slightly. “I need some time.”

There it was. Distance again. I didn’t want to give it to her. I didn’t want to leave her alone when she was like this. But I didn’t want to push her either.

So, I stepped back and gave her what she wanted.

“Okay,” I said. “I understand.”

The door opened then, and Luca walked in, his eyes immediately going to her face, taking in the tear- streaked cheeks, the redness in her eyes. His expression hardened instantly.

“What happened?” he demanded, his gaze snapping toward me.

Before I could respond, she spoke. “I just want to go home.”

Her voice was tired, drained.

Luca hesitated for only a second before nodding. “Alright.”

I looked at her one last time. “I can come-”

“I said I need time, Dominic.” The words weren’t harsh. But they were final.

I swallowed the instinct to argue, to insist, to stay. “Okay,” I said quietly. “Take your time.”

A pause.

Then, softly, I added, “Take care of yourself.”

She didn’t respond. She just turned and walked towards the door with Luca beside her. And I stood there, watching as she walked away from me again.

Only this time, it felt different. Heavier.

Because now, it wasn’t just her walking away. It was everything we had just found out. Everything that had just changed.

And all I could do, was let her go.
