His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 722

Rebel POV

Thalia came back with Raul, and then she burst into tears when she saw Austin was awake.

“Dad! It took you long enough!” she cried with a sob. “Don’t ever do that to us again!”

Aiden held her, still silently shocked.

Austin cleared his throat. “Water?”

I immediately got up, but he pulled me back. Thalia rushed to get the water, and Aiden helped him drink from the straw.

“Welcome back, Dad,” he said, finally breaking his silence.

Raul then broke the news. “That was one hell of a nap, Austin. A full year. I guess you won’t be telling Rebel you're tired for a while.”

When Raul said ‘a full year’, it clicked for my mate. “A year?”

I nodded. “A year, my love.”

Then his eyes softened when he looked at my tear-stained face. “I’m sorry, darlin’.”

“I’m going to call everyone,” Aiden said, stepping outside. Thalia joined him to give us privacy.

Raul looked over Austin and his vitals and said, “So far, everything looks good, but he is going to need some time to readjust and rebuild his strength.” After that, Raul left, and I was alone with my mate.

He continued holding my hand. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to leave you for a year, Rebel.”

“You saved our son. I know if you had to do it again, you would have, and I don’t blame you, Austin. I’m just glad you are back.”

“What happened this past year?”

I started explaining the war. I explained how Jonah and Lacey died and were brought back by the passageways. Then I had to explain the passageways. I told him about Thalia being in the hospital for over a week after finishing Julian. After that, I told him about how life has settled, and all the pups.

Austin smiled widely. There is the gorgeous, loving mate I missed. I really missed him so much.

“What about you? Have you been taking care of yourself, darlin’? You seem a little weak.”

Aiden and Thalia walked back in at that very moment. “No. She hasn’t been taking care of herself, Dad. Her condition is starting to flare back up. Thalia and I were here to relieve her so she could eat and rest,” Aiden said, being a tattletale.

“Snitches get stitches, son,” I threatened playfully.
