His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 167

Estelle’s eyelids twitched. How did he find out? she wondered.

“I did help Yelena find a place to live,” she admitted, “but I wasn’t the one who got her out. As for who did, I’m sure with your resources, you’ll find out soon enough.”

“You’d better hope so,” Conrad said, his voice, raspy from smoking, holding a dangerous edge as he dropped the cigarette butt. “Estelle, I’ve already let it slide once because you’re my ‘sister.’ Don’t let there be a next time.”

After speaking, Conrad turned and walked away.

Watching him go, Estelle felt a bitter pang in her heart. The day she realized she was in love with Conrad was the day her life had been irrevocably ruined. Winning his love still seemed like an impossibly long road ahead.

Estelle’s room was next to Yazmin’s. Yazmin, having thought she heard Conrad’s voice, opened her door just in time to see his cold, angry silhouette descending the stairs. She asked the stunned Estelle, “What did Conrad just say to you?”

Estelle turned slowly to face Yazmin. “He asked where Serena went. He suspects we had something to do with her disappearance. I think he’s going to investigate. Mom, I’m so scared.”

Estelle was cunning and quick-witted.

Yazmin’s eyes darkened, and slowly, a deep anger filled them. “So what if he investigates? I’d like to see who he chooses—that witch or his own mother.”

With Yazmin as her trump card, Estelle felt bold enough to do anything. She smiled and linked her arm through Yazmin’s. “Don’t worry, Mom. Conrad will definitely choose you. You’re the person he loves most in this world.”

With Monroe still missing, a pall of gloom hung over the Beryl Manor.
