His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 17

Annika’s smile vanished, her expression turning cold. She followed Estelle’s gaze and saw Conrad’s tall figure across the room, greeting important guests with his executives.

When she looked back at Estelle, she didn’t miss the flicker of triumph in her eyes. Annika leaned in close and whispered, “Estelle, your mom told me you’re not her biological daughter.”

“Bullshit!” Estelle recoiled as if she’d been burned, her eyes wide with shock and fury. “Annika… you’re lying!”

“Go ask her. If she denies it, I’ll let you do whatever you want to me.”

Muttering curses under her breath, Estelle stormed off.

Annika took a deep breath and plastered a smile back on her face. However, the guests who had been smiling at her moments before now pointedly looked away, pretending not to see her.

People were always so pragmatic. Estelle’s loud proclamation that she had fallen out of Conrad’s favor had clearly done its job.

Annika scoffed. Seeing that everyone was flocking around her mother-in-law, Yazmin, she found a quiet seat by the window. She took another glass of juice from a waiter and sipped it while listening to the music playing through her discreet earbuds.

Her doctor had told her that music was excellent for the baby’s development, and she had been collecting beautiful melodies ever since she found out she was pregnant.

She was sure she had just seen Conrad by the entrance, but when she looked again, he was gone. She scanned the ballroom several times but couldn't find him anywhere. Her gaze inadvertently fell on Yazmin, who was chatting with a few other wealthy women.

Suddenly, Estelle came stumbling down the stairs and grabbed her mother’s arm. She whispered something urgently, and Annika saw the color drain from Yazmin’s face. Then she quickly excused herself from her friends and followed Estelle upstairs.
