His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 29

A strange smile twisted Estelle’s lips. She glanced down at Annika’s stomach several times before speaking. “Annika, the rumors are flying. Everyone’s saying that baby in your belly isn’t my brother’s.”

Annika finally understood. Serena’s fall down the stairs had been a lie, a performance designed to lure Conrad away so Estelle could make her move. She fumbled for her phone to call Harvey, but Estelle slapped it out of her hand, sending it clattering to the floor.

Before Annika could react, she felt a sharp prick in her arm. She looked down to see a syringe piercing her skin. As she reached to pull it out, a hand in a plastic glove swiftly depressed the plunger, emptying its contents into her body. Her vision blurred, and the world tilted. Then she collapsed.

...

Annika woke up two hours later. Spread out on the table beside her were several official-looking reports from different labs, all detailing the results of an amniocentesis. The conclusion was starkly printed on each one: the DNA match between her baby and Conrad was nearly zero.

Looking up at Conrad’s stone-cold face, Annika opened her mouth to explain, but the words died in her throat.

"Do you have anything to say?" His voice was glacial, laced with a deep, cutting pain.

Annika clenched her fists. What was there to say? Serena and Estelle had gone to such lengths to prove the child wasn't his. And honestly, she was done trying to make things work with a man so heartless. If he wanted to believe this fabricated evidence, then let him.

When she remained silent, Conrad’s control finally snapped. He roared, “Speak!”
