His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 66

The phrase 'sloppy seconds' must have struck a nerve, because Serena immediately tried to video call.

Annika declined, but she kept calling, again and again, until Annika finally sighed and accepted.

On the screen, Serena sat in a wheelchair, a sea of fiery red flowers behind her. Her face was a mask of cold fury. “Annika, who’s really picking up the scraps here? Don’t forget, I had Conrad first. You stole him from me.”

“If it was true love, no one could have stolen him,” Annika retorted with a scoff.

“If you hadn’t gotten between us, I wouldn’t be crippled! Annika, don’t you feel even a little bit guilty?” Serena’s voice boomed, practically shaking the phone.

Annika closed her eyes and took a steadying breath. “First of all,” she said, her voice even, “I didn’t force him to marry me. Second, even after we were married, no one held a knife to his throat and made him sleep with me. And third, we’re divorced now. To you, he might be some irreplaceable treasure, but to me, he’s nothing but a piece of shit…”

Her words caught in her throat. She felt an icy gaze on her, and looking closer at the screen, she saw him. A tall figure had appeared behind Serena. Conrad’s deep, piercing eyes, glinting with fire, were fixed on her, threatening to shatter her already trembling heart. Even through the screen, she could feel the waves of his fury.

She hadn't realized Conrad would still be with Serena at this hour.
