His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 68

Conrad had no time for his excuses. He hung up, spun the car around, and sped back to Scent Haven.

Hank was waiting under the eaves, his face pale and his lips trembling. “What happened? Talk,” Conrad snapped, striding past him toward the villa.

Hank followed silently, struggling to find the words. He hesitated for so long that he didn’t say a thing.

Sensing something was deeply wrong, Conrad stopped and turned, his gaze as sharp as a sword. “Are you trying to get yourself fired?”

“The baby is gone,” Hank finally choked out. Conrad froze. As the meaning of the words sank in, he lunged forward, grabbing Hank by the collar. “Say that again,” he snarled.

Hank trembled. “Mrs. Beryl… she got rid of the baby.”

A sharp crack echoed as Conrad’s hand struck Hank’s face. With a thud, Hank dropped to his knees. “Mr. Beryl, she said her stomach hurt. She looked awful, so I took her to the hospital. When she came out, she said the baby was gone. I asked the doctor… and she confirmed that Annika had just had an abortion.”

Rage surged through Conrad, the blood roaring in his ears. He fought the overwhelming impulse to tear Hank to pieces, but what good would that do? His child was still gone. Annika had kept telling him the baby wasn’t his, but he knew. He knew it was his. It was why he had forced her to stay with him.

Conrad’s heart felt like it was shattering. He looked as if he had aged ten years in a single moment. With a monumental effort, he forced a single word through his teeth. “Get out.”

“Mr. Beryl…”

“I said, get out!”

At Conrad’s furious roar, Hank scrambled to his feet and left.
