HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 1017

Hello, as I mentioned before, starting today I will be writing Eli and Josh's story. Hope you like it.

***

One year had passed since Naomi and Chris's wedding. Life in the Miller and Callister families continued as usual, although a few things had slowly changed as their children grew older.

Graduation day had finally arrived.

Eli stood among the other students wearing graduation gowns, a small smile on her face. In her hands, she held the diploma that was the result of her hard work and dedication to her studies. She had not only successfully completed her education with excellent grades, but had also been given the opportunity to continue her education at the next level through a full scholarship.

Raven University was her choice.

The university was about an hour away from the Miller family's main residence. It was not too far to visit, but far enough for Eli to experience a life that was truly different. Although Eli had already been accustomed to living in a dormitory and not always coming home since high school, university life still felt different. A busier schedule, a wider environment, and greater responsibilities made Eli want to truly learn how to manage her own life.

Meanwhile, Joshua chose Miller University. A choice that Eli thought made perfect sense. Joshua had many matters related to the family and the company. Attending Miller University allowed him to remain close to home while also making it easier for him to carry out the responsibilities that were gradually being entrusted to him.

However, when Eli announced her decision to continue living in the dormitory, Althea immediately expressed her objection.

"Why do you have to live in the dormitory? Raven University is only an hour away from home."

Eli, who was sitting across from Althea, merely smiled faintly. "I want to focus on my studies, Mrs. Althea."

Althea let out a soft sigh. She had already expected Eli to give that reason.

"You always say you want to focus on your studies. But do you really need to live in the dormitory?" she asked. "You've been living in a dormitory since high school. Even back then, you rarely came home. Now you're entering university. If you live there, when will we be able to see you?"

Eli fell silent for a moment.

She knew Althea's objection was not because she did not trust her. Quite the opposite. The woman was simply too worried about her. Eli had never considered the Miller family a place that was uncomfortable to live in, either. They had given her a home, a family, and a life she had never imagined before.

However, precisely because of that, Eli felt that she did not want to keep depending on them.

"I don't mean to distance myself from the family," she said softly. "I just want to learn how to live more independently."

"You don't need to be so independent," Althea replied without hesitation. "In this house, you've never been considered a burden."

Eli lowered her gaze for a moment. Those words made her chest feel warm yet slightly tight at the same time. "I know, Mrs. Althea. I really do."

"Then why?"

Eli raised her face again. "Because I'm going to college. I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to take responsibility for myself. Besides, I won't be going far."

Althea was still looking at her with a dissatisfied expression. "An hour's journey doesn't mean you'll come home often."
