HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 1034

Since the incident at Claire Bakery, Eli and Natalie’s relationship had actually grown closer. Because Natalie and David had been best friends since childhood, having Natalie around made it easier for Eli to adjust to David’s circle of friends.

They began spending more time together on campus. Sometimes they would eat together after class, study together in the library, or simply sit in the park while talking about simple things. Eli also began to feel comfortable when she was around them. She no longer felt like an outsider in David’s life.

However, the closer their relationship became, the more often Natalie asked Eli for help. At first, it was only small things. Borrowing notes when she missed a class, asking Eli to bring her a drink because she was in a hurry, or asking her to accompany her to buy something after class.

Eli never minded. To her, helping a friend was not difficult.

Over time, those requests began taking up time that Eli should have been using for herself. One afternoon, Eli had already planned to finish an assignment in the library when Natalie suddenly asked her to accompany her to the shopping center because she did not want to go alone.

Eli hesitated. Her assignment was due the next morning, and she had not even finished half of it. However, when she saw Natalie’s pleading expression, she finally closed her laptop.

"Just for a little while, okay?"

Natalie immediately smiled in relief. "Yes. I promise I won’t be long."

Eli nodded and put her things back into her bag. She did not feel as though she was making a sacrifice. At least, not yet. To her, Natalie was her friend. And if a friend needed help, there was nothing wrong with giving her a little of her time.

David also said the same thing several times whenever Eli began to look tired.

"Don’t let Natalie burden you too much," he said one evening as they were walking back from the sports building. "She does tend to depend a little on the people close to her."

Eli smiled faintly. "I don’t mind."

"I know." David looked at her for a moment. "That’s one of the reasons I like you. You always know how to understand other people."

That simple compliment made Eli feel once again that her decision to give in was not in vain.

It did not happen only once.

That afternoon, Eli had just finished her last class when she saw the singing practice schedule saved on her phone. The inter-university competition would be held in a few weeks, so she did not want to miss practice. She had even prepared several parts of the song that she wanted to improve that day.

Eli had just entered the arts building when her phone vibrated.

Natalie.

Eli answered the call as she continued walking toward the practice room. "Yes, Natalie?"

"I need your help."

Natalie’s voice sounded different from usual. Eli immediately stopped walking. "What happened?"

"I’m not doing well."

Eli frowned. "Are you sick?"

"No."

"Then?"
