The medical staff immediately knelt beside Josh and carefully began examining his hand. Eli remained beside him, not even realizing that her own hand had been clenched since she saw Josh fall. She could only watch every movement of the medical staff, hoping the injury was not as serious as it appeared.
“Try moving your hand.”
Josh followed the instruction. He could still move several of his fingers, but when he tried to move his wrist, his expression immediately changed. The pain that appeared made him wince unconsciously.
Eli saw it. “It hurts, doesn’t it?”
“A little.”
“A little?” Eli stared at him in disbelief. “Your face even turned pale, Josh!”
Josh tried to smile. “I can still bear it.”
The medical staff examined his wrist again before finally shaking their head slowly. “It looks like you’ve sprained your wrist. We need to take you to the medical room for further examination.”
Josh immediately shook his head. “There’s no need.”
Eli turned to him.
The medical staff did not seem surprised by his answer. “You need to be examined further to make sure there are no other injuries.”
“I can still play.”
“No.” The answer was firm.
Josh frowned. “I can still use this hand.”
“For now, maybe. But that doesn’t mean you can continue the game. If it is sprained and you keep using it, the condition could get worse.”
Josh fell silent.
His gaze shifted to the court. The game was not over yet. Miller was in a difficult situation, and Raven clearly would not let this opportunity pass. As captain, Josh knew his team needed him.
“I can’t just leave the game.”
Eli immediately gave him a sharp look.
She had actually expected Josh to say something like that. From the beginning, she knew how important this game was to Josh. He had trained hard to bring Miller University to the semifinals, and as captain, Josh must have felt a great responsibility toward his entire team.
However, seeing the condition of his hand now, Eli could not let him continue to push himself.
“Why can’t you?” Eli asked curtly.
“You just fell, and now you still want to play.”
“I just want to make sure my team is okay.”
Josh’s voice sounded calm, but behind it was a sense of guilt he could not hide. He did not want to leave his teammates while the game was still going on. He knew they had fought together all this time, and he did not want them to feel abandoned just because he had been injured.
Eli understood that.
Precisely because she understood Josh’s feelings, it became even harder for her to simply let him leave.
“And what if your hand gets worse?”
The question made Josh fall silent.
He lowered his head and looked at his own wrist. The pain was still there. It was not too severe if he did not move it much, but it was enough to make him realize that his condition was indeed not okay.
Yet in his mind, he was still thinking about the game.
Miller was facing Raven. This was not an ordinary game. They had already made it to the semifinals, and every point would determine whether they could move on to the next stage or had to stop here.
