Cale clicked his tongue but still gave Eli a gentle pat on the head. “Okay.”

Eli hugged Cale tightly. “Thank you, Uncle Cale.”

“What about me?” Chris protested. “I’m the one who allowed Eli to fight back harder.”

“Oh, of course you get some appreciation too,” Naomi said.

Eli truly felt lucky to be part of the Miller family. When she thought about the past, it was truly embarrassing, and Eli genuinely felt guilty. But their acceptance made her realize that family was not only about blood ties.

That was why Eli did not want to become an excessive burden to them. She wanted to show many achievements to the Miller and Callyster families, who had never doubted her.

“I’m leaving,” Eli said, waving enthusiastically. “I’ll be back next week. And Josh, remember... no basketball for one month.”

The young man frowned in annoyance. “You’re annoying!”

“I know!”

The car taking Eli began to leave the Miller family home.

It did not take long for the car Eli was riding in to enter the grounds of Raven University.

However, as soon as she entered the campus area, she immediately realized that something was different. The atmosphere that had felt heavy for some time because of the cynical looks and whispers from people about her no longer felt that way.

Several students who passed her only glanced briefly before continuing with their own activities, while others did not even pay attention to her anymore.

There were no quiet voices deliberately made loud enough for her to hear, and no judgmental looks that made her hold her breath every time she walked past a crowd.

Eli did not know what had changed, but she was grateful enough not to question it. At least, she could go back to living her days peacefully. She immediately headed to the classroom and prepared to attend her lecture.

However, after only a few steps before entering, someone suddenly grabbed her arm.

“Eli!”

Eli turned and found Bertha standing beside her, looking as though she very much wanted to say something.

“Where did you go yesterday?” she asked.

However, Eli immediately dismissed the thought. She did not want to start hoping for something that might not happen. After all, whatever David knew now did not change everything that had already happened between them.

Throughout the lecture, Eli tried to focus her attention on the professor at the front of the classroom, but her thoughts returned to her conversation with Bertha several times. She did not even realize when she accidentally glanced at her phone on the desk several times.

She was still wondering whether David had really contacted her because of that. When the class finally ended, Eli immediately gathered her books. She had just stepped out of the classroom when her steps came to a halt.

David was standing not far from the door, as if he had been waiting for her. When their eyes met, David gave her a small smile, although his expression looked slightly awkward.

“Hi, Eli.”

Eli did not answer immediately. She only stared at David for a few seconds, still unsure what she should do about the meeting she had not expected at all.

“Um...” David hesitated for a moment before finally asking, “Am I bothering you?”

Eli remained silent.

David took a slow breath. “Can we talk? Just for a moment?”
