HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 344

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 344**

“Mom’s going to be okay… right?” Felicia’s voice trembled as she twisted her hands together, the tension in her grip making her knuckles turn a ghostly white. The doctor’s words echoed in her mind, but the anxiety gnawed at her insides, refusing to let go. She needed to see her mother, to feel assured that everything would be alright.

Kalina, her sister, rested a comforting hand on Felicia’s shoulder, though her own face mirrored the pallor of fear. The VIP waiting room was thick with an unspoken dread, each person lost in their own thoughts, unable to mask their worry. “The doctor said she just needs to get through the critical stage. They’ll find a way to bring her back to us, Felicia. You know how strong Mommy is,” she reassured, her voice a soft balm against the harsh reality surrounding them.

The sisters leaned into one another, seeking solace in their shared anxiety, a fragile bond formed in the face of uncertainty.

Across the room, Daven leaned against the stark white wall of the hospital, feeling as shattered as he looked. Each passing moment felt like an eternity, and he found himself taking long, deliberate breaths, his gaze fixed on the doors that had just swung shut. Althea approached him slowly, her presence a gentle anchor in the storm of his emotions. She intertwined her fingers with his, a small gesture that spoke volumes.

“I’ll come back after I take Josh and Grace home. Mrs. Riana will stay with them for now. And Felicia and Kalina are here—you’re not alone,” she said, her voice laced with warmth and understanding.

“You should stay home too. Let me wait here for Mom,” Daven replied, a hint of desperation creeping into his tone.

Althea offered him a fragile smile, one that seemed to carry the weight of their shared fears. “I can’t do that, Daven. Mommy Kate is my family too.” She settled beside him, her hand moving in a soothing rhythm across his shoulder, a comfort only a devoted wife could provide. “You need to rest a bit. Felicia will let you know if anything changes. Don’t push your own body to the brink.”

“I know, love,” Daven murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I’m terrified that the moment I close my eyes, I’ll wake up to worse news.” The thought gnawed at him, a relentless specter of what might come.

Althea inhaled sharply, sensing the tension radiating from his fingers as they clutched hers. “That won’t happen, Daven,” she reassured, her eyes searching his for any flicker of hope.

Kalina nodded in agreement, stepping closer to the couple. Felicia joined them, and soon the sisters enveloped Althea in a warm embrace, a silent pact of solidarity forged in their shared fear and grief. They held each other tightly, each heartbeat echoing the quiet hope that perhaps, just perhaps, a miracle could find its way to them.

That Kate Callister would return to them, that she would fulfill her wish from mere hours ago: to see Josh and Grace, to laugh and play with them, to bask in the warmth of her eldest son’s home once more.

“I believe Mommy’s strong,” Althea whispered, her voice a soft prayer. “God will protect her.”
