HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 740

Chapter 740

A moment later, Brandon entered with an expression far more serious than usual.

“Is this one of your new habits now?” Cale asked without lifting his gaze from the report he still hadn’t finished reviewing. “You should know I’m starting to hate it.”

Brandon let out a quiet laugh.

He then asked everyone in the room to leave them alone. Liu immediately looked displeased by the idea, but one glance from Cale was enough.

“Make sure there are no gaps,” Cale said flatly.

“Of course, Mr. Cale.”

Liu immediately understood the situation and stepped back, giving them space before leaving the room.

Brandon walked closer and tossed a thin envelope onto Cale’s desk.

The action instantly earned him a cold look from Cale.

“What is this?” Cale asked.

“Take a look.” Brandon pulled out a chair and sat down casually. “Interesting room,” he commented while leaning back comfortably.

“I don’t need your compliments.”

Cale stared at the envelope for a moment before shifting his gaze toward the man sitting across from him. Eventually, he opened it slowly.

Inside were several photographs of Naomi taken earlier that afternoon at the Chen family’s main residence.

His jaw tightened immediately.

“What is the meaning of this, Brandon?” His voice turned dangerously cold.

“You’re protecting this girl from my brother, aren’t you?”

Cale’s hand clenched tightly.

“I don’t care who you choose to protect,” Brandon continued calmly. “But you should know my insane brother has already started moving.”

Cale looked at him sharply. “I know.”

Brandon no longer looked relaxed. He straightened in his chair and leaned forward slightly.

“I know my brother better than anyone,” he said quietly. “And now… he’s no longer looking at that girl as someone who simply ran away from him.”

The silence between them carried a pressure heavy enough to make the back of one’s neck prickle.

The faint sound of rain outside the large windows only made the atmosphere inside the sitting room feel even heavier.

Brandon let out a short breath before continuing.

“He’s starting to see Naomi as something he has to possess. And-”

“Does Falcon know who she really is?”

Brandon shrugged lightly. “I didn’t look into it. If I had, it would’ve meant stepping into territory that belongs to you.” His gaze returned to Cale. “But if Falcon is moving this aggressively, then the value that girl holds must be worth it.”

A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Isn’t that right?”

Cale’s gaze slowly darkened until it felt deeper than the night itself.

“If this were only about debt,” Brandon continued, “Falcon might still be someone you could negotiate with.” He looked directly at Cale. “But once he becomes obsessed, everything changes. And according to one of my informants, he’s already started looking for support from the underworld in this city. I’m sure you know what that means, right?”

The words sounded like a clear warning.

Yet instead of looking troubled, Cale became even calmer.

And somehow, that was far more unsettling.

“What exactly is your purpose in coming here?” Cale finally asked.

Brandon smiled faintly, though this time he looked far more tired than usual.

“I just wanted to make sure of one thing.” His eyes dropped toward the photographs of Naomi still in Cale’s hand. “Are you really prepared to face a clash that could erupt at any moment… all for the sake of protecting one girl?”

The room suddenly fell silent.

Cale stared at Naomi’s photograph for several seconds before finally speaking in a low voice.

“I once asked you something. If something ever happened between me and Don Falcon, whose side would you stand on?”

Brandon ended up laughing quietly. “And you’re asking me that now? Instead of worrying about what you’re about to face?”

“Don Falcon and the people working with him won’t be able to touch that girl easily.” Cale’s voice remained steady and certain. “Even if everything I believe in suddenly betrays me, I’m prepared to deal with it.”

Brandon fell silent.

“Do you know why I asked you that question?”

Cale picked up the cup of tea that had been sitting untouched in front of him. He took a slow sip, letting the sweet taste and calming aroma settle briefly in the air between them.

“You think I’m on my brother’s side?” Brandon asked.

A faint smirk appeared on Cale’s lips. “I simply don’t want to end up against a potentially valuable business client. But if you intend to help those people touch my family…” His gaze sharpened dangerously. “I won’t stay silent.”

Brandon’s smile widened. “Family, huh?”
