HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 835

Naomi almost laughed.

Uncomfortable?

That word felt far too mild to describe what had actually happened. Far too simple to explain how this man had once frightened her to the point where she could no longer think clearly. But Naomi chose to remain silent. She did not want to give Falcon the reaction he was looking for.

Because the longer she observed him, the more obvious something else became.

Falcon was not apologizing for her sake alone.

He was putting on a display.

Every word that came out of his mouth was loud enough for the people around them to hear. Clear enough to draw the attention of anyone who had previously been watching from a distance. Naomi could even sense the atmosphere around their table gradually changing. Some conversations stopped. More eyes began to turn toward them. And before they realized it, they had become the center of attention at the party.

That was when Naomi understood.

Falcon was building an image.

He was rewriting the story that some people might have known. Transforming the negative impression attached to him into the image of a man who acknowledged his mistakes and had come to make amends. If someone who did not know what had really happened witnessed this scene, they might see Falcon as a sincere and responsible man.

And to be fair, he was doing it quite well.

“I hope you can give me a chance to make things right,” Falcon continued in a tone far gentler than usual.

The discomfort in Naomi’s chest grew stronger. Not because of the apology, but because she was beginning to understand where this conversation was headed.

There was no way Falcon was doing all of this without a purpose. There was no way he had crossed a hall full of guests just to say he was sorry and then leave.

And Naomi’s suspicion was confirmed when the man spoke again.

“Perhaps we could talk in private.”

Naomi immediately lifted her gaze. For the first time that night, she was completely certain that the apology was not Falcon’s real objective. Everything that had happened since he approached her table had merely been an opening move toward something he actually wanted.

But what?

“Ahem!” Chris cleared his throat, drawing Falcon’s attention toward him. “Sorry? What exactly did you just say?”

Chris leaned back slightly in his chair. Since the arrival of this stranger, he had been trying to stay calm and assess the situation. His expression remained relaxed, even too relaxed for someone who had just interrupted a conversation in the middle of a hall filled with important guests.

Falcon looked at him without blinking. “I only want to speak with Miss Naomi in private.”

He was making sure Falcon had no room to control its direction.

“Besides,” Chris continued casually as he picked up his drink, “if there’s truly no ulterior motive behind your apology, then I don’t see any problem discussing it here.”

Falcon’s gaze sharpened, and he clearly disliked what Chris had just said. For the first time that night, Falcon felt irritated. “I only want to speak with Naomi.”

“And I only want to make sure Naomi is comfortable.” Chris’s response came so quickly it almost sounded like a reflex.

Naomi turned to look at him. For a moment, he no longer looked like the Chris who enjoyed joking around or deliberately getting on her nerves. His gaze was calm, yet there was something firm in it.

Something that suddenly reminded Naomi of Cale Miller. The same calm demeanor, yet at the same time, he displayed it so casually. But it left absolutely no room for the other person to push any further.

Chris looked back at Falcon and smiled faintly. “Oh, right.” As though he had just remembered something, he set down his glass and extended a hand. “I’m Chris Miller.”

Several people around them immediately fell silent, exchanging looks with one another. That family name alone was enough to catch the attention of anyone who recognized it.

Chris himself seemed completely unconcerned by their reaction.

“I should have waited for my beloved fiancée to introduce me.” He glanced briefly at Naomi before looking back at Falcon. “But I don’t think that’s necessary anymore, is it?”
