“This is Miss Naomi’s room,” one of the servants said as she opened the door and bowed politely.
She made sure Chris stepped carefully into the room since he was still carrying Naomi. Chris also left Naomi’s bedroom door wide open to avoid any misunderstandings, considering the girl curled up in his arms was extremely troublesome when she got angry.
The room was already dimly lit. The atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. The air conditioner was also running, keeping the room cool and comfortable for its owner.
With careful movements, Chris lowered Naomi onto the bed. The girl did not wake up at all. She merely wrinkled her nose slightly and shifted to find a more comfortable position before drifting back into deep sleep.
Chris did not leave immediately.
For some reason, he stood beside the bed for a while, looking at Naomi’s sleeping face. For the first time since they had met, the girl looked completely at peace. There was no wary gaze, no defensive attitude. None of her habit of hiding what she felt behind a sharp tone of voice.
And the small lips that usually hurled annoying remarks were now tightly closed. There was only Naomi, fast asleep after a long night.
Without realizing it, Chris chuckled softly. He found himself recalling the various events that had happened at the party earlier. Naomi mocking Silas Evermont with an innocent expression. Naomi dragging Cale away from the middle of an important conversation simply because she was worried Brandon was connected to Falcon. Naomi kicking him under the table merely because of something he had said to protect her.
And the thing that made him unable to stop himself from laughing again was when Naomi had finally admitted in front of everyone that Chris was her fiancé. Just thinking about it made the corner of Chris’s lips lift once more.
“Truly troublesome.”
The complaint sounded more like praise. He pulled the blanket up to cover Naomi’s body before turning toward the door. But after only a few steps, a quiet voice came from behind him.
“Compared to me, whom you called troublesome, aren’t you also extremely annoying?”
Chris stopped.
When he turned around, he found that Naomi had already opened her eyes. She still looked sleepy and exhausted. But it was clear that the girl was awake.
“Chris.”
“Hmm?”
“You really don’t want to tell me about Felicia?”
The smile on Chris’s face immediately changed. It did not disappear completely, but the cheerfulness on his face diminished considerably. And that small change did not escape Naomi’s notice.
It made Naomi realize that the woman’s name really did affect Chris.
The man let out a long sigh. “Honestly, I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Why?” Naomi looked at Chris curiously. “Am I really not allowed to know?”
