“It’s not that.” Chris chose to lean back against the chair for a moment.

“Then what is it?” Naomi pressed.

For some reason, she was very impatient tonight. Normally, Naomi did not care much about things like this, but it seemed that this was influenced by the brief dream she had while accidentally falling asleep earlier.

But Naomi still chose to be honest. “Because I don’t like it.”

Chris raised an eyebrow. “Don’t like it? Why?”

“The situation.”

“What situation?” Chris was genuinely confused now.

“Maybe one day I’ll find someone who truly loves me.” The corner of Naomi’s lips lifted slightly. She could hardly believe she was saying those words in front of Chris. “Or maybe I’ll be stuck with you for a very long time.”

Chris almost laughed when he heard that. But the laugh never came when he saw Naomi’s expression. The girl was genuinely considering that possibility. And for some reason, that realization made something inside his chest feel strange.

“And knowing that my fiancé actually likes another woman...” Naomi sighed. “It’s not pleasant.”

Silence immediately filled the room.

For the first time that night, Chris was truly at a loss for words. Because that sentence sounded far more dangerous than Naomi could possibly realize.

She had said it so casually. Without any particular intention. Without realizing how every word that left her mouth made it difficult for Chris to look away.

“It makes me feel like I’ve already lost before the competition even begins,” Naomi continued as she leaned her head back.

Chris looked at her for a long moment before finally letting out a soft laugh. “Jesus.”
