HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 884

Then there were only two possibilities.

They were really there.

Or...

They wanted Cale to believe they were there.

Meanwhile, at TnC's Sun City headquarters, the atmosphere inside the conference room remained tense. Several directors from different divisions sat around the long conference table, while the presentation screen at the front of the room displayed the logistics project that had been the day's primary agenda since morning.

Chris had just signed one of the documents when the phone beside his tablet vibrated softly. Once, twice, then followed by a long vibration as a message appeared on the screen: Emergency Security Protocol Level Red.

Chris's hand stopped moving instantly. His eyes sharpened as he looked at the message on his phone. Without waiting even a second, he opened the notification and found a brief message from Vincent.

Mrs. Lydia and Naomi have been kidnapped. Code Red. If possible, return to Carrington Bay immediately.

Chris's entire body froze instantly.

The color slowly drained from his face, while the pen still in his hand slipped from his grasp and fell onto the conference table. The soft clatter immediately drew everyone's attention toward him.

"Mr. Chris?" one of the directors called out, puzzled by the drastic change in his demeanor.

But Chris did not respond at all. He immediately stood up, grabbed his suit jacket, and strode toward the exit.

Several of the directors called after him almost at once.

"Mr. Chris, the meeting isn't over yet."

"Mr. Chris? What's happened?"

"Wait a minute. What's going on, Mr. Miller?"

None of those questions managed to stop him. The moment the conference room door closed behind him, Chris broke into a hurried run. The secretaries he passed in the corridor had only enough time to turn and stare in confusion as their superior rushed past them without acknowledging anyone.

Less than forty minutes later, Chris was already at the departure terminal of Sun City Airport. He had just finished pressing the airline staff to arrange the earliest possible flight to Carrington Bay when his phone rang again.

The voice on the other end disappeared completely. There was nothing but silence for several tense seconds. When Daven finally spoke again, his voice had turned ice-cold. "Where are you right now? I'm coming to you."

"Don't," Chris answered quickly before Daven could act.

Chris closed his eyes for a moment to steady his emotions before continuing, "Cale has already deployed TnC's entire security network, and Vincent is leading the search on the ground. All of Carrington Bay is mobilized right now. If they need your help, they'll contact you. But for now, stay in Sun City and keep things under control there. Don't let this news leak and trigger another wave of panic, especially in front of Dad and Mom."

Daven clenched his jaw tightly. He desperately wanted to leave for Carrington Bay immediately, but he also knew Chris was absolutely right. If all of TnC's top executives abandoned their posts at the same time, the company's internal situation would only descend into greater chaos.

"I hate admitting it, but you're right," Daven finally said reluctantly.

Chris let out a quiet breath, trying to calm himself. "Trust me. I'll bring them home."

"Be careful," Daven said with a long sigh. Worry was evident in his voice, though there was little he could do. "I'll do everything I can to help from Sun City."

Without realizing it, Chris smiled faintly. "Thank you, Daven."

"Of course. We're family. No matter what happens, I'll always be ready to help you. Because I know you'd do the same for me, Chris."
