HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 900

Chris let out a rough breath, trying to suppress the frustration welling up inside him. "I checked the location myself, Cale."

"What did you see there?"

Chris then recounted everything without leaving out a single detail. From the two-story house in a classic style occupied by an ordinary family, to the little boy happily playing in the yard, and the homeowners who claimed they had lived there for nearly ten years.

Throughout Chris's explanation, Cale listened attentively without interrupting him even once. After several seconds of silence settled over them again, Cale finally drew a slow breath before speaking.

"Then there are only two possibilities," Cale said. "First, the information from Brandon's trusted network was wrong from the very beginning."

"But, Mr. Miller..." Brandon tried to interject.

"And I don't believe the first possibility," Cale cut him off decisively, causing Brandon to fall silent again.

"Then what's the second possibility?" Vincent asked.

Cale's gaze gradually hardened. "The location Brandon gave us really was where they were."

Chris frowned in confusion. "But the situation there..."

"Someone highly professional erased every trace of their activity there just before you arrived," Cale explained without hesitation.

The room fell into another oppressive silence. Vincent slowly folded his arms across his chest, beginning to grasp the enemy's strategy. "That explains why Mr. Chris didn't find a single thing out of place or any signs of movement there."

Brandon blinked in confusion. "Then... it's possible they moved Naomi before we had the chance to act?"

"Or," Cale continued quietly, his voice low and calculated, "they deliberately allowed that empty location to be leaked to one of Brandon's men, so we would be distracted and lose valuable time chasing them."

Cale's words instantly made everyone in the room exchange anxious glances. Chris slowly unclenched the fists he had been holding tightly this whole time. The anger burning inside him gradually gave way to a deep sense of frustration.

"Then," Chris murmured quietly, staring blankly at the digital map before them, "they're one step ahead of us? How are we supposed to follow a trail that can no longer be traced?"

The man named Leon took his place on the right side of the room without saying another word. Before anyone could speak, another knock sounded at the door.

This time, a short-haired woman entered the room carrying a slim tablet in her hand. Her gaze was sharp and completely focused. She walked straight ahead without looking at anyone until she stopped a few steps away from Cale.

"Head of the Cyber Division reporting." She lowered her head as well. "Master."

She was followed by a large man whose hair had begun to turn gray at the temples. A thin scar ran across his left eyebrow, making his face appear far more intimidating than the others. Like the two who had arrived before him, he bowed respectfully the moment he saw Cale.

"Master," he greeted respectfully.

One by one, people began to arrive, filling the command room. Some came alone, while others had just arrived after traveling at high speed from another city.

They varied in age. Most of them wore neatly tailored formal suits. Even so, they all shared one thing in common: a small obsidian stone pin firmly fastened to the lapel of each of their jackets.

And when they saw Cale standing at the head of the table, not a single one of them spoke immediately. Instead, they bowed their heads deeply, paying him profound respect, a gesture of loyalty that seemed to have become second nature after many years.
