That morning, Naomi woke up not because sunlight had slipped through the heavy curtains, but because of the soft knock on her bedroom door. She slowly opened her eyes. For a few seconds, her mind was blank before everything that had happened yesterday came flooding back.
Falcon, the old house that looked like a warehouse, the towering iron gate, and the words that still echoed clearly in her ears.
"Starting tomorrow... you'll learn to live as my future wife."
Naomi's breathing grew a little heavier, weighed down by a sense of oppression. She got out of bed, smoothing her messy hair with her fingers before turning her gaze toward the window. The morning sky was clear. From the bedroom window where she had spent the night, it looked beautiful, yet she still had no freedom to enjoy it.
The door slowly opened.
The middle-aged woman who had brought her lunch yesterday walked in again, pushing a small trolley carrying breakfast. Her face looked paler than it had the day before. Even her hands trembled slightly as she placed the warm dishes on the table.
"Good morning, Miss," she greeted softly. "I've brought your breakfast."
Naomi only glanced at it briefly.
The aroma of freshly baked bread, warm soup, eggs, fresh fruit, and a cup of tea filled the room. Everything looked delicious, but unfortunately, not a single dish managed to stir her appetite. In fact, she thought what had been served before her was far too lavish for someone being held captive.
"I'm not hungry."
The maid immediately lowered her head. "Miss... I beg you..."
Naomi turned to look at her. The woman was wringing her hands together. Her eyes had begun to redden, as though she had been holding back tears for quite some time.
"If you don't eat..." She couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence.
Naomi slowly rose from her chair. "Will he punish you?"
The maid instinctively shook her head. "No."
The bedroom door swung open.
Falcon strode inside with an upright posture, dressed in a neatly pressed black shirt. His hair was still slightly damp, as though he had just finished showering. The moment he crossed the threshold, his eyes immediately settled on the table beside the bed.
Then... on the untouched plate of food that had not been eaten at all. Falcon's gaze then shifted, looking straight at Naomi. "You haven't touched your breakfast."
Naomi remained where she stood, refusing to appear intimidated. "I already told you, I don't want to eat."
Falcon gave a slight nod, his expression unreadable, as though he had expected that refusal from the very beginning. He then shifted his gaze, turning sharply toward the middle-aged maid, who was still standing stiffly with her head bowed low.
"Did you actually try to persuade her?" Falcon asked in a low voice.
The older woman's body trembled even more violently under the intimidation. "Y-Yes, sir."
