HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 907

"So that question should really be mine," Cale said with a cynical scoff.

Hector responded with a faint smile. He simply gestured toward the empty chair across from him. "Have a seat."

Cale didn't move. "I didn't come here for coffee."

"I know." Hector remained calm. He lifted his coffee cup, took a small sip, then carefully set it back down on its saucer.

"Then don't waste my time."

Hector slowly raised his eyes. "Don't you want to know where your wife is?"

"Don't play games with me, Mr. Hector," Cale warned. He stepped closer and leaned slightly toward the middle-aged man, who seemed perfectly at ease enjoying his time. "I don't know what your connection to this case is, but if your only intention is to waste my time, I won't hesitate to deal with you."

Hector chuckled softly. "You really are impatient."

"I'm racing against time," Cale replied, his tone just as cynical as before.

"I've never doubted your abilities." Hector leaned back in his chair. His expression remained impassive, but his gaze never left Cale. "It's precisely because I know what you're capable of that I contacted you."

Cale remained standing, looking at the man with undisguised displeasure. "Get to the point."

Hector let out a quiet breath. "Your wife is still alive."

That brief statement caused Cale's expression to soften slightly. Even so, the information did nothing to answer the many questions racing through his mind. Even if Lydia was still alive, was she unharmed? What if she had been injured?

"How is she?" Cale finally pulled out one of the chairs and sat down with his back perfectly straight.

"She's fine."

That was all. Yet for the first time since the devastating news that Lydia and Naomi had been kidnapped, the tension in Cale's shoulders eased ever so slightly.

"The people holding her have no intention of killing her."

"Then?" Cale pressed immediately.

"She's waiting." Hector straightened his back, a sign that he was about to discuss something far more serious than before.

"What do you mean?"

"Waiting to see what you're going to do. But... you do realize that no one is going to wait forever for you to make your move to rescue Lydia, don't you?" Hector fixed his gaze on Cale.

Silence settled over the small table once again. Hector folded his hands on the tabletop. "I'm sure you've already realized one thing."

Cale remained silent, waiting for Hector to continue.

"The moment you start deploying the full force of the Obsidian Circle without restraint," the man said with a quiet sigh. His gaze shifted away from Cale and out the window, watching the nearly empty streets, "Carrington Bay will become a battlefield."

Cale's expression didn't change in the slightest. "I won't hesitate to make everyone responsible pay for what they've done. Even if I have to turn this city into a sea of flames, I don't care."

Hector looked back at him. "I see."

"He dared to lay a hand on what's mine."

Cale's voice remained calm, yet it was laced with overwhelming intimidation. It was precisely because of that forced calm that the immense anger beneath it was so unmistakable, ready to erupt at any moment. The tension in the café suddenly crept higher, locking the atmosphere around them in place.

"That man crossed the line." There wasn't the slightest trace of hesitation as Cale continued. His gaze was razor-sharp. "And there's only one person crazy enough to do all this."

The two men's eyes met again in oppressive silence.

"Silas Evermont."

Hector gave a faint smile, one that carried the weight of something deeply personal. "Because Jasper is my son-in-law."

The answer didn't change Cale's expression in the slightest. His face remained as hard as stone, unmoved by Hector's family ties. "As far as I know, Jasper is on Silas's side. Several of your son-in-law's businesses are backed by Silas, even though they're operating under Devereux's supervision. You know about the northern expansion project."

"Of course I do." Hector let out a long sigh. "He was on Silas's side." He corrected himself calmly, trying to clarify the situation. "But lately, a number of agreements have made Jasper feel that Silas has gone too far. And what happened this time only reinforced that. In Jasper's opinion, Silas has crossed the line."

"Crossed the line?" Cale repeated flatly, a faint trace of sarcasm in his voice.

"Kidnapping another man's wife isn't something he can accept," Hector said honestly. "I can assure you Jasper had no part in that decision."

Cale slowly shook his head, rejecting the explanation outright. As far as he was concerned, the line had been crossed the moment Lydia was taken. "It makes no difference to me."

Hector's expression shifted slightly, revealing the first signs of growing concern. "You're still going to go after him?"

Cale met Hector's gaze with absolute certainty, making it clear that there would be no mercy for anyone involved.

"Not just him." Cale's voice was so cold it was almost devoid of emotion.

"Anyone who chooses to stand behind Silas," he paused briefly, "I'll break them one by one."

Hector's gaze hardened. "That's exactly why I asked to meet with you today."

Cale said nothing.

Hector continued in the same calm voice. "I know how you operate, Cale Miller. Once you make your move," he looked Cale straight in the eye, "you never leave a single root alive."

Silence settled over the small table for several seconds.

Hector then leaned back in his chair before finally asking quietly, "If I tell you where Lydia is... can you guarantee Jasper's safety? And that Carrington Bay won't become a sea of blood?"
