HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 920

The doctor slowly parted his lips. "Mrs. Lydia..." The man hesitated, and that hesitation made Lydia unconsciously tense even more. The doctor took a deep breath. "Have you ever..."

Before he could finish his sentence...

BOOM!!

A massive explosion shook the entire building.

The floor beneath Lydia's feet trembled violently. The chandelier hanging from the ceiling swung wildly as chunks of plaster broke loose and crashed onto the floor one after another. The windowpanes rattled violently under the shockwave, while alarms suddenly blared throughout the entire building, shattering the silence that had blanketed the old house.

The doctor sprang to his feet. "What happened?"

Before either Lydia or the doctor could comprehend what was happening, the bedroom door was violently shoved open from the outside.

Bang!

Jasper appeared first.

For the first time since Lydia had known him, his expression had changed. He no longer looked as composed as usual. His jaw was set, and his gaze swept across the entire room in a matter of seconds.

"Silas!" he shouted toward the corridor.

From the first floor, the first gunshot finally rang out.

Bang!

Bang! Bang!

The guards' shouts immediately erupted, mixing with the footsteps of dozens of people racing through the hallways of the house. The radio clipped to one of Silas's men's shoulder suddenly crackled to life.

"The eastern perimeter has been breached!"

"The front team, fall back!"

"They're already inside the courtyard!"

"All units, to your positions!"

The reports overlapped one another without pause.

Silas, who had been standing several feet from the door, slowly drew a pistol from beneath his jacket. There wasn't the slightest hint of panic on his face. Instead, his eyes became even more alive, as though this was the very moment he had been waiting for from the beginning.

The corners of his lips slowly curved into a faint smile. "Finally." He turned his head toward Jasper. "Our guests have arrived."

Not far from the bed, Lydia unconsciously gripped the edge of the blanket more tightly. Her heart pounded so hard it nearly drowned out the gunfire that was drawing closer by the second.

Someone... had really come. But who?

"Now isn't the time to explain." Jasper turned to the doctor. "Doctor."

"Yes?"

"Is there anything you can do to ease her pain? At least until we get out of this place."

The doctor immediately reopened his medical case. His hands moved quickly as he searched for several medication ampoules before finally shaking his head slightly. "I can give her something to relieve the pain."

"Do it. Quickly."

"But the effect will only be temporary. She still needs to receive proper treatment at a hospital as soon as possible."

Jasper gave a brief nod. "That'll be enough."

The doctor immediately prepared the injection, while gunfire echoed once more from the first floor. This time it was much closer. Faintly, the sound of people shouting at one another inside the house could already be heard.

Lydia slowly closed her eyes for a moment. Amid the chaos engulfing the building... the hope she had struggled to hold onto over the past several days finally flared back to life.

She didn't know who was fighting outside. But for some reason, there was only one certainty in her heart.

Cale had come.
