Lydia shook her head firmly. "No! I can get to Cale if I'm with them!"
"Lydia!" For the first time, Jasper called her by name without any formal address. His voice rang out so sharply that Lydia froze.
"If you go to them now," he said, pointing toward the bushes on the right, "you'll never get to see Mr. Cale!"
Lydia followed the direction of Jasper's finger. Only then did she see the glint of rifle barrels slowly emerging from behind the foliage.
Before she could react...
Bang!
The bullet flew toward them with incredible speed. Jasper instinctively shoved Lydia aside.
Thud!
His own body twisted from the impact as the bullet tore through his left shoulder. Blood immediately sprayed across his gray suit.
"Mr. Jasper!" the doctor cried out in panic.
Jasper staggered back a step. His face turned pale instantly, but he remained standing. His left hand immediately clamped over the gunshot wound as blood continued to pour from it.
Lydia's eyes widened. "You've been shot!"
"That doesn't matter." Jasper's voice had grown heavy. He raised his pistol with his right hand and fired two shots back at the marksman.
Bang! Bang!
"Get in the car!"
"But..."
"That's an order!"
Two guards immediately pulled open the SUV's door. The doctor practically dragged Lydia inside because she was still trying to turn toward Ricko, who was now only a few meters away.
"Mrs. Lydia!" Ricko shouted. "We're taking you home!"
Those words made Lydia's eyes burn. She instinctively reached out toward him. But... Jasper shoved the car door shut.
"Go!"
The black SUV continued speeding down the mountain road. No one realized that behind them, someone could only watch the vehicle disappear into the distance, unable to do anything.
Ricko still stood in the middle of the rear courtyard. His eyes remained fixed on the cloud of dust slowly fading behind the trees. The gunfire around him seemed to disappear from his hearing.
Only one image kept replaying in his mind.
Lydia. And she had gotten into the vehicle with Jasper.
"Damn it!" He clenched both fists so tightly that the veins on the backs of his hands bulged. "We were too late!"
Without wasting another second, Ricko immediately grabbed the radio still clipped to his shoulder. His fingers trembled slightly as he pressed the transmit button. His breathing was still ragged from the running and the firefight that had not yet truly ended, but he knew this information had to reach Cale immediately.
"Mr. Vincent."
Vincent's voice immediately came through the radio. "Report."
On the other side of the building, Vincent was still standing a few steps behind Cale. The second-floor corridor had once again fallen into an oppressive silence after the gunfire subsided. Dust still drifted through the air, while the smell of gunpowder mixed with crumbled concrete filled every corner of the hallway. Not far ahead of them, Silas remained standing, his eyes never leaving Cale, as though he was completely undisturbed by the radio that had just come to life.
Ricko took a deep breath before finally speaking. "We've found Mrs. Lydia."
