Chapter 151
Isabella’s POV
It had been two days.
Two days since Dominic left the villa.
Two days of pretending I was fine.
Caterina tried not to show it, but I could see it in the way she lingered by the windows in the evenings, like she expected her son to walk up the driveway any second. Mateo asked about him constantly like he had when Dominic had been too busy with work to come home.
“Is Dominic coming tonight?”
“When is he coming back?”
“Is he still working?”
I knelt in front of him that morning while buttoning his school shirt and forced a smile. “He’s just busy with work, amore. He’ll be back soon.”
Soon. The lie tasted bitter.
Dominic had texted me a few times.
How are you?
How’s Mateo?
Did he finish his homework?
I’d replied politely. Short answers. There was no mention of Alessia. No mention of the penthouse. And honestly, I didn’t know if I wanted to hear about it.
Because every time I imagined him there, in the same house as her, feeding her, staying beside her, it felt like someone was slowly carving into my chest.
But I stood by what I’d said.
All or nothing.
I wouldn’t share him.
Even if it meant losing him.
And yet, somewhere deep inside, stubborn and foolish, hope clung.
He wouldn’t choose her. Not like that. Not truly.
After dropping Mateo to his class and speaking briefly with his teacher about an upcoming school activity, I stepped outside.
Marco was already waiting by the car. He was usually the one who drove us around when Dominic wasn’t there to do it

But the sound of bullets hitting inches from me didn’t feel fine.
I covered my head instinctively. My mind spiraled. What if they went for Mateo next?
What if
No.
He’s guarded. He’s safe. He has men there.
Still, terror crawled through my veins like ice.
Marco drove like a man possessed, swerving violently through side streets. But the car behind us didn’t relent.
Another burst of gunfire made my ears ring. I tasted fear in the back of my throat.
“Almost there!” Marco shouted.
The city blurred past. We sped towards what looked like a warehouse.
The large metal doors began lifting before we even had reached them.
This was probably the security response. They were already expecting us.
The moment we crossed the threshold, the doors slammed shut behind us with a heavy metallic crash.
