His Ruthless Redemption (Isabella and Dominic) novel Chapter 216

Chapter 216

Dominic’s POV

Something was wrong.

And the worst part was that technically, nothing was wrong at all.

That was what made it unbearable.

I stared down at my phone again at another reply from Isa. It was short, polite, and perfectly normal.

I’m fine. Mateo is sleeping already.

That was it.

No anger. No accusation. No coldness sharp enough to fight against.

Just distance.

Clean. Controlled. Quiet distance.

And somehow, that was infinitely worse.

I leaned back slowly in my office chair, staring at the message like it might rearrange itself into somethin terrifying.

Two days.

It had been two days since the incident with Mateo. Two days since Isa had screamed at me outside the cli Two days since she had looked at me like I was the source of every danger in her life.

And honestly?

I would’ve preferred if she kept screaming.

Hell, I would’ve taken complete silence too.

But this? This careful civility? This pretending everything was normal when it clearly wasn’t?

It made something cold settle in my chest.

Because I remembered this all too well.

Five years ago, there had been signs too. Small ones. Easy to ignore if you were arrogant enough.

And back then?

I had been. Too distracted. Too convinced she would stay. Too stupid to realize my wife had been quietly breaking apart right in front of me.

The distance had started subtly then too. Polite conversations. Smaller smiles. Less fighting.

And I had mistaken the quiet for peace.

God. What an idiot I had been.

Now, though?

Now I noticed everything. Every delayed reply. Every carefully neutral sentence. Every missing heart her words.

And the realization hit me harder with every passing hour.

She was pulling away again.

I stood abruptly and walked towards the window overlooking Milan’s skyline.

The city lights blurred slightly against the dark glass.

Isa’s project here was almost over. A few more weeks. Maybe less.

Then what?

Would she leave quietly once everything was done? Would she take Mateo and disappear before I could her?

And now there was the baby too.

My chest tightened painfully at the thought.

Just two days ago, I had heard that tiny heartbeat for the first time.

I still couldn’t stop thinking about it. That fast little rhythm. Strong. Alive. Ours.

I had spent five years mourning one family.

I wasn’t losing another. Not again. Never again.

I grabbed my phone immediately and called Marco.

He answered on the second ring. “Boss.”

“I want security tightened around Isabella and Mateo,” I said, no hesitation, no explanation.

Marco immediately shifted into work mode. “It’s already increased since the incident.”

“Increase it more.”

A brief pause. Then, “Understood.”

I stared out at the city. “And I want to know if Isabella goes anywhere unattended.”

That earned a slightly longer silence.

Then carefully, “Boss, unattended how?”

I rubbed a hand over my jaw. “Any movement outside work and home. Any unusual meetings.”

Still silence. Marco wasn’t stupid. He was already putting pieces together.

I continued before he could ask. “If she goes near any travel agencies, relocation offices, anything com to moving, I want to know immediately.”

That got a reaction. “Moving?”

This was one question I didn’t want spoken aloud. Because saying it made it feel real. And it being rea something I could ever be prepared for.

I forced my voice to stay calm. “Just do it.”

Another pause. Then, “Yes, boss.”

The call ended.

I stared at my reflection in the window afterwards. And for a moment, I genuinely hated what I saw.

Because this wasn’t normal.

Monitoring the woman I loved because I was terrified she’d run from me again? That wasn’t healthy.

But neither was losing her.

And if those were my choices, I would choose obsession every single time.

I closed my eyes briefly.

God.

I was trying. I really was.

Everything I was doing now, every move, was for them. For Isa. For Mateo. For the baby.

I had already started preparing Eduardo quietly. Training him. Testing him. Giving him more control ove operations little by little.

Most people thought I was simply expanding his authority. No one realized I was building a replacement. Carefully. Slowly. Strategically.

Because leaving this life wasn’t something you did recklessly.

It had to look natural. Stable. Otherwise the vultures circled immediately.

The Vitellis. Other families.

Even people within our own organization.

Weakness got men killed.

And I couldn’t afford mistakes anymore. Not with Isa pregnant. Not with enemies watching. Not wi becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

I exhaled sharply and grabbed my phone again.

This time calling Eduardo.

He picked up almost instantly. “Boss.”

“I need an update.”

A pause. “Everything’s moving smoothly so far.”

“Any pushback?”

“Not yet.”

That wasn’t reassuring. Usually silence meant people were watching carefully before making a move.

I leaned against the desk. “How are the men responding to you?”

Eduardo hesitated briefly. “They listen.”

“But?”

“But they’re loyal to you.”

There it was. The real problem. Loyalty.

I closed my eyes briefly. “They’ll adapt.”
