His Ruthless Redemption (Isabella and Dominic) novel Chapter 218

Chapter 218

Chapter 218

Dominic’s POV

The meeting had been going nowhere. Three department heads were arguing over logistics. Someone was talking about shipment routes. Someone else was talking about finances,

Normally, I would have been paying attention.

Today, my concentration was already fractured.

Because despite everything sitting in front of me, my mind kept drifting back to Isa.

The short texts. The polite replies. The distance.

God.

I hated that distance.

I was halfway through considering whether I should simply drive to her office after work when my phone vibrated.

Marco.

I answered immediately. “Yes?”

The second I heard his voice, something inside me went cold. “Boss.” A pause. Then, “Isabella collapsed.”

Everything stopped.

“What?” The word came out dangerously quiet.

The room around me disappeared. The meeting, the voices, the documents, all of it was gone.

Marco continued. “She fainted at a café. We took her to the hospital.”

For one second, I genuinely couldn’t breathe.

Isa. Pregnant. Collapsed.

Jesus Christ.

I was already standing before I consciously realized it, the chair scraping loudly against the floor.

Everyone in the room turned.

I didn’t care.

“What hospital?”

Marco told me.

I was moving before he even finished. “Keep me updated.”

Then I hung up.

Someone called after me, but I ignored them.

Someone else asked if everything was okay.

I ignored that too.

Nothing mattered except getting to Isa.

Nothing.

The drive to the hospital felt endless. I didn’t know how many traffic rules I broke to get to her as soon as I could. Frankly, I didn’t care.

Every terrible possibility kept flashing through my head.

What if something happened to the baby What if she was hurt? What if she’d been pushing herself too hard?

What if-

No.

I gripped the steering wheel tighter.

She was fine. She had to be fine.

Because I couldn’t survive losing her again.

And I definitely couldn’t survive losing our child.

By the time I reached the hospital, I was moving so fast people were stepping out of my way automatically.

The first person I saw was Luca. And immediately knew this wasn’t going to go well.

He was pacing outside the examination area. The second he saw me, his expression darkened.

Good.

Mine wasn’t exactly friendly either.

“What happened?” I demanded.

Luca laughed. A sharp, humorless sound. “What happened?” His voice rose immediately. “What happened is that the woman carrying your child collapsed.”

My jaw tightened. “I asked what happened medically.”

“And I’m telling you what happened.” His eyes flashed with anger. “Stress happened.”

Wonderful. Here we go.

I stepped closer. “What are you talking about?”

Luca looked genuinely furious now. “The constant drama. The constant chaos. The constant pressure He pointed directly at me. “That’s what happened.”

I clenched my jaw. “Careful what you say.”

“No.” His voice rose. “No, Dominic. You be careful.”

Several people in the waiting area were staring now.

I didn’t care.

Neither did he.

“She’s exhausted,” Luca continued. “She’s anxious all the time. She’s scared all the time. And why?” His locked onto mine. “Because of you.”

That landed harder than I wanted it to.

Because somewhere in the back of my mind, small, ugly voice whispered that he wasn’t entirely wrong.

But then Luca kept talking.

And that voice disappeared beneath anger.

“You know what she needs?” His laugh was bitter. “Someone normal.”

I went very still.

Luca didn’t notice. Or didn’t care.

“Someone who doesn’t bring enemies and violence and stress into her life every single day.”

There it was. The implication. The comparison. The thing that made something dark twist inside my chest.

“Someone like you?” I asked coldly.

Luca held my gaze. “Maybe.”

Wrong answer.

Very wrong answer.

Because suddenly I wasn’t thinking rationally anymore. I wasn’t thinking about hospitals. Or doctors. Or even

Isa.

I was thinking about the fact that this man had been standing beside her for years. Helping her. Supporting her. Being everything I hadn’t been.

And now he was standing here telling me she deserved him instead.

I grabbed his collar before I fully registered moving.

The motion was instant. Violent. Pure instinct.

Luca grabbed my wrist immediately. “Touch me again.”

“Oh, I’d love to.”

“Dominic!” My mother’s voice cut through the air like a gunshot.

We both froze.

Caterina Russo was standing several feet away.

And she looked furious. Not annoyed. Not irritated. Downright furious.

Great.

She marched over immediately and shoved herself between us. “What is wrong with both of you?”

Neither of us answered.

Smart choice.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t done.

She turned on me first. “Are you an idiot?”

“Mamma-”

“No.”

She pointed a finger directly at my chest. “You come into a hospital and start fighting like a lunatic?”

I opened my mouth. Then closed it again. Because there was genuinely no defense for that. And apparently she wasn’t finished.

“I heard what Luca was saying.”

Wonderful. Even better.

“And?” I regretted asking immediately.

Because her expression hardened further. “And he isn’t wrong.”

That hit far worse than anything Luca had said. Because this was my mother, the one person who always

understood me.

And even she looked disappointed.

“All you’ve done lately is stress that poor girl out.”

I exhaled sharply.

“Mamma-”

“No,” she glared at me. “No excuses.”

Then her voice softened slightly, which somehow felt worse. “This should be one of the happiest times of her life.” A pause. “And instead she’s constantly worried.”

I looked away briefly. Because hearing it out loud hurt. Mostly because it was true.

I wanted to give Isa everything. The best doctors. The best care. The safest environment. A future. A family.

And somehow every attempt seemed to create the exact opposite.

Before I could respond, a doctor stepped out into the hallway.

Everyone turned immediately.

My heart nearly stopped.

The doctor glanced between us. “Family?”

“Yes,” I said immediately. “How is she?”

The doctor looked at me carefully. Then at my mother. “She’s awake.”

Relief hit me so hard my knees almost gave out.

Awake.

Thank God.

The doctor continued. “Has she been under significant stress recently?”

I opened my mouth. Then stopped.

Because my mother answered first. “She’s been dealing with some family problems.”

The doctor frowned immediately. “Those family problems need to be resolved.” The seriousness in his tone made my stomach drop. “Stress at this stage isn’t good for her.”

Or the baby.
