Dominic’s POV

I couldn’t stop looking at her. And it was becoming a problem. A very obvious problem. One that both Mateo and Isabella had already noticed.
“Dominic.”
I blinked.

Mateo was staring at me from across the breakfast table.
“What?”
“You’re doing it again.”
I frowned. “Doing what?”
He pointed directly at me. “Looking at Mama weird.”
Isa nearly choked on her coffee.

I immediately tried my best to look offended even though I could feel my ears heating up from embarrassment. Thank God for tanned skin. “I am not,” I denied immediately.
“You are.”
“I am not.”
“You are.”
I looked towards Isa for support, which was clearly a mistake.
Because she was laughing now. Actually laughing. Not one of those small of the exhausted smiles from the hospital.
lite smiles she’d been giving me lately. Not one
This was a real laugh, bright, warm and alive, one that lit her whole face up.
God.
I loved that sound. I loved the way her eyes crinkled at the corners as she grinned, her expression one of pure, unbridled
joy.
And just like that, I completely forgot what Mateo had accused
me of.
Because she was happy. Actually happy.
The realization hit me again, making me unexpectedly emotional.
This entire trip had been a gamble. A desperate attempt at making things right, even if it was for a little while. It was my one last idea after weeks of watching her spiral. After the hospital. After the panic attacks. After watching her slowly pull away
from me.
I had wanted this weekend
to
help, had needed it to help.

And somehow, fox-once, it actually had.
I couldn’t remember the last time something I’d planned had gone according to plan. Usually my attempts to help Isa somehow exploded spectacutely in my face.
Yet here she was. Relaxed. Smiling. Happy.
The sight alone felt worth every bit of effort, even if I had nearly driven Marco insane organizing it.
Mateo narrowed his eyes. “See?”
I blinked. “What?”
“You’re doing it again.”
Isa laughed harder. “He’s right.”
I looked between them. Traitors. Both of them. “I brought you here,” I stated.
“You did.”
“I paid for breakfast.”
“You did.”
“I deserve loyalty.”
Mateo gasped. “That’s not how loyalty works.”
“It absolutely is.”

“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Mateo.”
“No.”
Isa was openly laughing now.
And honestly?
I would’ve paid ten times the cost of this trip just to hear that laugh again.
The morning passed slowly, peacefully, and for once, happily.
After breakfast we wandered through the vineyard grounds. The weather was perfect, warm sunlight with a cool breeze. It was the kind of day people wrote poetry about.
Mateo raced ahead, immediately declaring himself the official explorer of this vineyard.
“Wait for us!”

I looked at Isa. “He gets that from you.”
She looked scandalized. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.”
“I am not like that.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Isa.”
“What?”
“You once got lost back in New York because you followed a cat.”
She stopped walking. “That happened one time.”
“It happened twice.”
“Once.”
“Twice.”
“The second time was a different cat.”
I stared at her. Then burst out laughing.

And God, the look she gave me, the fake offended glare, the little smile trying to escape, felt like everything I’d wished for and then some was handed to me right then.
I’d missed this. Missed her. Not the woman who was scared and stressed and pulling away. But this woman.
My Isabella.
The one who made me laugh. The one who argued about cats with complete sincerity. The one I’d fallen in love with years ago even if I hadn’t fully realised the depth of my emotions then. With time, they had only deepened.
At some point Mateo spotted a small pond. And immediately decided he needed to investigate it.
I watched him run off before looking towards Isa.
She was smiling, watching him, relaxed and for once, not checking every exit. Not scanning every stranger. Not looking over her shoulder.
She was just being a mother. And something inside me twisted painfully.
Because this was what she’d wanted all along. Nothing extravagant. Nothing complicated. Just peace. Just family. Just normal.
And I’d spent years failing to give it to her.
The guilt hit hard. As it always did.

Hut for unce it didn’t completely drown out the hope.
Because things were changing. Slowly. Painfully. But they were.
I was changing them. For her. For our children. For us.
I wasn’t letting this life take anything else from me. Or from them.
“You’re thinking too hard.” Isa’s voice pulled me back,
I looked over, noticing that her gaze was already on me, concern replacing her smile.
Dangerous woman. Always noticing too much.
“What makes you say that?”
“You get this look.”
“What look?”
“The one where you’re mentally fighting twenty people.”
I snorted. “Only twenty?”
“There it is.” I laughed softly.
Then reached out without thinking and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. The movement felt natural, familiar, like something we’d done a thousand times before.
very aware of how close we were standing. How beautiful she For a second neither of us moved. And suddenly I became v looked in the sunlight. How much I loved her. How much I always would.
The moment stretched. Quiet. Soft.
Then, “Mama!”
Saved by the child.
Mateo came running back, holding something triumphantly.
A long feather, probably about the size of his little arm looking like he’d discovered buried treasure. “Look!”
Isa immediately crouched down. “Wow.”
“I found it.”
“Clearly.”
