Dominic’s POV

The next night when we worked, the shipment yard was too quiet.

The silence wasn’t the peaceful kind, just wrong.

Floodlights washed the concrete in harsh white as trucks were unloaded, men shouting codes and ticking boxes. Crates were being rolled towards the warehouse doors. The night air smelled like salt and diesel with something metallic beneath it.

A normal transfer.

That was what it had to look like.

No ambush. No trap. Just good, heavy Russo security doing its job.

Because if the Vitellis realized this was staged, Isabella would be in danger again. Mateo would be back on their radar, too. Then the whole point of the talk she had had with the Vitellis would be nothing.

I stood on the catwalk above the yard, jacket open, gun holstered but ready. Eduardo was beside me, eyes constantly moving.

“You sure about this?” he muttered.

“No,” I replied flatly. “But it’s happening.”

Isa’s message had done exactly what we’d expected, given the Vitellis a reason to strike. Not Mateo. Not her.

Me.

I would take that heat a thousand times over.

I heard a crackle in my earpiece.

“Movement, south side. Vans without plates.”

Eduardo’s head snapped up. “They’re here.”

“Let it look real,” I said. “No fancy moves. No traps. Just defend.”

The first shot shattered the night.

Then chaos erupted.

Vitelli men poured out of the vans, guns blazing. Bullets sparked against concrete. One of my men went down screaming as a round tore through his thigh.

“Cover left!”

“Sniper on the roof!”

“Move the goddamn crates!”

I drew and fired, taking down a man who rushed one of the loaders. Another lunged for me, coming on too fast, too suddenly. His knife sliced across my arm.

Pain exploded.

I grunted, slammed my elbow into his throat, and shot him point-blank.

Blood splattered my boots as he fell.

Eduardo dragged me behind a container. “You’re bleeding.”

“I’m fine,” I snarled. “Keep pushing.”

The fight lasted barely ten minutes, but it felt like hours.

When the smoke cleared, the yard was a wreck. Two of my men were injured. One of theirs lay dead. Several other of their men had fled, probably realising that the security here was too heavy for them to take down on their own.

Two of the Vitellis were still alive. Injured, but alive. Just what I’d been hoping for.

“Bind them.” I ordered. “Now.”

We hauled them into the warehouse and tied them to metal chairs.

I leaned against a crate, catching my breath, blood soaking my sleeve.

Isa’s face flashed through my mind.

She usually slept early, but I knew she wasn’t going to tonight, knowing that I was out here, fighting these goons. It had been my own choice to do this, to put myself on the spot like this. It had been my idea. But I knew she still blamed herself because she was the one who had sent the message.

I wanted to get back to her as soon as possible to ease her worries. I knew she was going to go crazy when she saw the cut on my arm, but I also knew that seeing me alive and in front of her would ease her mind a lot.

I walked over to the prisoners, ready to get this done and over with quickly.

“You came for the shipment. But I’ve held you here for a different reason,” I said quietly. “I know you have someone on the inside among my men. Who is it?”

They hesitated, eyes widening. I felt Eduardo go still beside me. He hadn’t known about us having a mole either until now. I hadn’t wanted to let anyone know about it until now. The only reason I had spoken about this in front of Eduardo now was because I’d had him checked, and he was clean.

“Who,” I repeated, stepping closer to the men.

“Doesn’t matter,” the one on the right sneered. “You’re already bleeding, that’s what matters.”

Eduardo slammed his fist into the table. “Answer him.”

The first man cracked. “We get information. From inside.”

My spine went cold.

“Inside from whom? I need a name,” I demanded.

“There’s someone in your crew. Someone close. They tell us things. Schedules. Moves. Who you care about.”

Eduardo swore under his breath.

My fists clenched.

Someone had sold my family, and I wasn’t going to rest until I knew who.

“Names,” I said.

They shook their heads. “We don’t get names. Just drops.”

“Where?”

“Encrypted phone. Burner numbers.”

“Who handles it?”

“Vitelli’s inside man. We never meet him.”

I turned away, fury boiling.

Eduardo exhaled. “Jesus. How long has this been going on? That’s why these fuckers always seemed as if they were a step ahead of us.”

“Yes,” I said. “And now we know why.”

I looked back at the tied men.
