Chapter 102
The Sunbrook project was a massive undertaking. The media had been hovering like vultures for weeks; the moment there was a scent of a deal, they pounced. They must have been camping outside the Ford residence for
hours.
That afternoon, the group flew back to Northbrook. By the time the plane touched down, it was already 8:00 PM.
Mia was at the baggage carousel when Ethan called.
‘Chloe is tired. I’m taking her back first. Bring her luggage to my place.”
‘Understood.”
Mia had been jogging toward the carousel, worried they’d be waiting for her. After the call, her pace slowed. A thin layer of sweat on her back began to cool.
The airport was quiet at this hour. Mia, small and thin, looked strained as she struggled with three large suitcases. Passersby cast curious glances her way.
The taxi line was short, and she made it into a car within minutes. After a long detour to drop the luggage off at Ethan’s villa, she finally headed to her own apartment.
It was past midnight when she finally collapsed into bed.
The next day was Saturday, and she slept until she woke up naturally. But the moment she checked her phone, her heart hammered against her ribs. She had dozens of missed calls-some from Leo, others from the Public
Relations Department manager.
She quickly opened the business news. The top trending topic was an interview with the Fords.
Marcus had spoken in detail about the partnership with Bayview, praising Ethan’s brilliance and expressing his xcitement for the collaboration.
Evelyn, however, had added her own spin: “I don’t know much about business, but if my husband praises him, Mr. Hale must be exceptional. However, it seems all of Mr. Hale’s brains went into business… His taste in women, on he other hand, isn’t exactly great.”
With that one sentence, the target was squarely on Chloe Bennett.
Even setting aside the fact that the Bennetts were nowhere near the Hales’ level, Chloe was nothing more than a rophy-a ‘puppy dog” who followed Ethan everywhere without contributing anything.
Plenty of people already felt Chloe wasn’t good enough for Ethan in terms of status or personality, but they never lared to say it. Evelyn Ford had just said what everyone was thinking.
The comment section was on fire.
‘-“I’ve been waiting for someone to say this forever!”
-“Does this guy have some kind of dirt on him? Why else would he be with her?”
-“Look, when God opens a window, he closes a door. Mr. Hale’s business sense is the window, and his taste is the door. Let’s be understanding, people.”
