Chapter 115
Sandra Bennett and Miranda Hale both wore expressions of pure hostility.
They looked at Mia Carter as if they had finally caught a fox by its tail. They stared her down, their eyes filled with
accusation.
Even though the news had been suppressed, the fact that Chloe Bennett had been publicly mocked for being “ugly” had already happened. There was no way they were going to let Chloe suffer such a grievance.
‘You three…” Evelyn Ford could tell these women hadn’t come with good intentions.
Chloe shared a striking resemblance to Sandra, so Evelyn immediately guessed this was Chloe’s mother. However, she couldn’t quite place the other woman next to her, who looked even wealthier and more furious.
Six eyes were focused on Mia, nearly burning a hole through her.
Mia’s eyes flickered. After a moment of silence, she looked at Evelyn. “Are full?”
‘I am.” Evelyn’s gaze shifted between Mia and the three women.
you
It’s getting late. You should head back to the hotel and rest. Have a safe trip back to Sunbrook tomorrow.”
Mia met Evelyn’s eyes, her gaze warm and steady.
Evelyn could tell Mia wanted her to leave.
She hesitated for a few seconds, then put on her coat and picked up her bag. “This must be Mrs. Bennett. I’m the >ne who called your daughter ugly. I can see you’re quite upset. Why don’t we step outside and have a chat?”
You-“Sandra hadn’t expected Evelyn to be so arrogant. Not only did she admit it, but she even had the nerve to
nvite Sandra outside?
What could they possibly have to talk about!
I can see you’re even angrier than I thought. Let’s go.” Evelyn didn’t fear her anger; she was only afraid Sandra
vouldn’t follow her.
With her bag tucked under her arm, Evelyn turned and walked out.
Sandra, you go. I’ll handle things here,” Miranda said with a stony face. “Neither of them is getting away with this oday!”
Sandra turned to leave but then thought of something and grabbed Chloe’s hand. “I’m going to make that woman
pologize to you in front of everyone!”
As she was dragged away, Chloe didn’t forget to shoot a vicious, hateful glare back at Mia.
Mia remained seated, calm and composed.
Only after the Bennett mother and daughter had been gone for a while did Miranda sit down across from her.
If you’re here to talk to me about Ms. Bennett, I have nothing to say,” Mia said quietly.
Evelyn had led the Bennetts away to draw some of the fire. Mia couldn’t keep insisting it was Evelyn’s personal :hoice and throw her friend under the bus. Besides, given Miranda’s attitude, she wouldn’t believe it anyway.

Miranda had held her tongue for a long time, and that was the first thing that burst out.
Mia felt a dull ache in her chest. “Is it possible the problem lies with you and Ms. Bennett?”
Whenever anything related to Ethan or Chloe happened, their first instinct was always to blame Mia. Whether it was good or bad, in their eyes, Mia was always the one pulling the strings in the shadows.
‘Unbelievable!” Miranda’s chest heaved with indignation.
When that news broke, the Hale family’s reputation had been damaged as well. More importantly, it broke her heart to see the daughter-in-law she had personally chosen and groomed be humiliated like that.
Mia kept her head down and remained silent.
You’ve gone to all this trouble just because you want to marry into the Hale family, haven’t you? Well, keep dreaming! Just you wait-this time, I’ll make sure you give up for good!”
The restaurant was elegant and quiet. Miranda fought the urge to slap Mia across the face and call her shameless. Instead, she lowered her voice, hissing her words, but it did nothing to vent her rage.
She grabbed the glass of warm water from the table and splashed it directly into Mia’s face.
Mia turned her head, but the water still soaked her shoulder and her loose hair. She looked instantly disheveled
and humiliated.
Miranda let out a cold snort, slammed the glass back onto the table, and stormed out.
