Chapter 127
It wasn’t that he was unworthy of being a father to Jaxon’s child.
It was that he was unworthy of ever being with Mia again..
After all, he had reached the point of getting engaged to Chloe. He was “second-hand” now.
“Grandma, what should we do?” Lila shook Grandma Hale’s arm. “We have to help Mia!”
Grandma Hale looked deeply calculating, the wrinkles on her face folding into a dozen sharp lines.
“Your brother is about to get engaged. Let’s suppress this for now. Once the engagement is over, I’ll go have a talk with the Rivers family!”
She was determined to back Mia up!
Lila puffed out her chest. “I’m going too!”
Finally, the day before the engagement, Mia had nothing left to do and could finally catch her breath.
She met with Nina to discuss where to go after leaving Northbrook.
They couldn’t go back to Emerald Bay, just in case something went wrong with Jaxon.
Nina suggested they meet at the orphanage. They had both been busy lately and hadn’t been back in a long time.
By the time Mia arrived after work, it was dinner time.
Mia and Nina prepared a table of delicious food and sat down to eat with the children.
I think South Haven is quite good,” Nina said, moving South Haven to the top of her list. “It’s just a bit far from
Northbrook.”
‘Far is good,” Mia replied.
Nina pursed her lips. “True. You haven’t been demoted for very long, so news of it shouldn’t have reached South Haven yet. Hopefully, it won’t affect your job search.”
Mia shook her head. “It can’t be hidden forever. My future employment will likely be very unstable.”
If she had left her position as the CEO’s secretary at Bayview under a mutual agreement, she wouldn’t have to worry about her next job. But now, everything was an unknown.
‘If it’s unstable, then don’t leave.”
Aunt May walked over and chimed in. “What’s the point of running so far away just to suffer and work yourself to
death?”
Nina smiled at Aunt May. “We have savings. Don’t you worry. We’ll make sure you and the children are taken care
of.”
Hearing this, Aunt May’s face dropped. “What do you mean, ‘me and the children’? It’s all money for the kids! You two grew up in this orphanage…”

Every time they returned, they were subjected to one of Aunt May’s lectures.
Mia listened quietly. Nina rolled her eyes where Aunt May couldn’t see.

‘So, if you don’t have to leave, don’t. If you really have that much in savings… just take it all out and spend it on the
kids!”
With a broad wave of her hand, Aunt May suggested they empty out every cent of the savings they had
accumulated over the past few years.
Nina’s expression shifted slightly. “That’s going too far. Yes, it’s true we grew up here, but not a single penny of the orphanage’s money went toward our education! We’ve already paid everything back over the years. Are you trying to bleed us dry with a single sentence?”
Mia had relied on scholarships, and Nina had started her career in social media before even finishing college. They were the two most successful people to come out of the orphanage, and they had given back the most.
The savings they had were gathered only after ensuring the children never lacked food or clothing!
Aunt May couldn’t win an argument against Nina, so she shut her mouth.
Nina let out a cold snort and stood up to walk out of the room.
The atmosphere grew awkward and stiff. Mia was about to follow Nina out when her sleeve was tugged.
