Chapter 160
In Ethan’s office, the midday sun flooded the room.
The area below the man’s Adam’s apple was bathed in light. He was leaning back in his chair, looking both lazy and
aristocratic.
It was as if the man with the dark, brooding face in the conference room earlier hadn’t been him at all.
‘There are some files here for you to handle.”
Mia looked at the mountain of documents on his desk.
She set the coffee down and flipped through them. They were all trivial matters.
Yet, Mia silently picked them all up.
‘Mr. Hale, may I have an assistant?”
Ethan held the coffee cup with his long fingers, bringing it to his lips for a sip.
He considered it for a few seconds. “Fine. Pick anyone you want from the secretarial office.”
Thank you, Mr. Hale.” Mia nodded and left with the files.
She chose Stella Lewis as her assistant.
Stella was mainly responsible for handling the trivial “messes” Ethan threw her way.
Furthermore, whenever Ethan asked for coffee, Mia would brew it and have Stella take it
Stella was a huge help, essentially taking over all the secretarial duties.
But even so, Mia’s team meetings were interrupted several times.
Every single time, Ethan was looking for trouble.
At first, he looked for insignificant small things that Mia could delegate to Stella.
Later, he started finding things that only Mia could handle.
As a result, Mia was bogged down with work, dragging the entire team’s progress behind.
She had no choice but to work overtime.
Throughout the afternoon, the team reviewed the Government Partnership Initiative. After their initial communication with the team at Riverside, they made preliminary adjustments to the cooperation proposal.
Mia screened the revised content, made a few more changes, and sent it to the inbox of the person in charge at
Riverside.
The moment it sent, her phone rang.
It was a WhatsApp message from Jaxon Rivers: “You’re in charge of the Government Partnership Initiative?”
Mia: “Yes.”
Jaxon sent a grinning emoji: “Please take good care of me.”

This project was vital to Riverside.
That was why Jaxon was personally overseeing it.
Mia thought for a moment and called him back.

“Mr. Rivers, I’ve just taken over the project, so I’m not entirely familiar with it yet. Plus, I’m balancing this with my secretarial duties. I’ll be very busy at times, and progress might be a bit slow. I hope you understand.”
Jaxon was, after all, the president of Riverside. If her busyness wasted his time, it would look like she was acting more important than him.
‘Sure, I’ll definitely give you that courtesy.” Jaxon thought of something and spoke a bit hesitantly. “How is that child… doing?”
Mia thought he was talking about Carly. “She’s already receiving treatment.”
Jaxon paused before adding, “No, I mean the one in your belly.”
…” Mia’s brow furrowed. She said, “It’s still in my belly.”
It was a useless answer.
But on second thought, Jaxon realized his own question was pretty pointless too.
He changed the subject. “You’re acting as secretary and leading a project. Can you manage all that?”
