Ethan stood tall, his natural aura completely suppressing lan, even though they were of similar height. “As long as Mr. Vance is willing, I have no objection.”

The group moved into a private booth Ethan had reserved.

They sat at a rectangular table for six. Mia sat next to Ethan, with lan directly across from her.

Leo Martinez arrived after parking the car. He was visibly stunned to see Mia there. Without a word, he pulled up

a chair and sat on Ethan’s other side.

‘lan, how do you and Ms. Carter know each other?” Richard asked casually.

lan chose his words carefully. “A distant relative of mine in the secretarial office at Bayview introduced us.”

He didn’t explicitly say it was a blind date, but the implication was clear.

That really is a shame,” Richard added. “We’ll arrange it for the next collaboration then.”

Ethan’s fingers lightly pinched his glass. The liquid inside was cool, the chill spreading through his fingertips to his hest. His entire presence radiated a freezing coldness.

Halfway through the meal, Mia went to the restroom.

Leo took the opportunity to follow her out. He caught her and asked, “You told me you were busy this afternoon. You were ‘busy’ eating with someone from Vanguard?”

Yes,” Mia nodded.

Are you dating that lan Reed?” Leo gossiped.

Mia shook her head. “No. I helped him with something a few days ago, and he invited me to lunch to thank me. That’s all.”

She dried her hands, adjusted her clothes, and headed back toward the booth.

Leo followed quickly. “The CEO of Vanguard clearly wants to set you two up.”

‘I noticed.” Mia rubbed her temples. “But it’s fine. Ian is a sensible person.”

Even though Richard had dropped several hints, lan hadn’t acted overly familiar with her.

After a few more words, they reached the door of the booth. Just as Mia was about to push it open, Leo stopped

her.

“Actually, Mr. Hale wanted you to join this lunch from the start. I told him you weren’t feeling well and were resting in your room…”

No wonder Ethan’s face had been so dark. It turned out there had been a massive misunderstanding.

Leo added, “Once the lunch is over, you should explain it to Mr. Hale.”

With that, he stepped back into the booth first.

Mia took a deep breath, steadying herself for a few seconds before following him back inside.

Half an hour later, the meal ended.

Mia took her bag and went downstairs to pay. While she was waiting for the receipt, Ian walked over.

‘I was supposed to treat you this time, but instead…” Ian looked embarrassed. “I’ll definitely treat you next time I get the chance.”

Mia took the receipt and tucked it into her bag. “We’ll see.”

They walked out of the restaurant together, intending to exchange a few more polite words. However, they found Ethan waiting by Mia’s car. Leo and Richard had already left.

‘Drive safely. I’m heading out,” Mia whispered her goodbye to Ian and walked quickly toward her car.
