His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 321

Chapter 321

Growing up in the orphanage, the phrase Mia Carter heard most often was “preference for sons over daughters.”

There weren’t many healthy children in the orphanage, and among the few who were, the majority were girls.

She often heard Aunt May say that girls were just “losing investments.”

This topic was even more prevalent among wealthy families. With billions in assets to inherit, having a son was seen as a necessity.

The two women walked away, never noticing Mia’s presence.

Mia stayed in the garden for a while longer before deciding to head back. It wouldn’t look good if she were absent for too long.

As she rounded the corner from the restroom, she saw Mrs. Gallagher rushing out.

The tension on Mrs. Gallagher’s face relaxed the moment she saw Mia.

‘Where did you go? I thought you’d left.”

‘I went to the garden for some fresh air,” Mia replied. “I’m sorry, I should have said something.”

Mrs. Gallagher’s level of concern seemed a bit excessive.

‘It’s fine. The others have all gone to the card room. Do you know how to play?” Mrs. Gallagher asked as she walked over.

Mia shook her head.

Then come with me.”

Mrs. Gallagher took her by the wrist and led her down a tree-lined path toward a two-story Western-style building.

There are professional beauticians and imported machines here. Let’s try them out together.”

She pulled Mia inside. Staff immediately came over to attend to them, leading them into a private room.

Thank you for the offer, Mrs. Gallagher, but I’m prone to allergies, so I think I’ll skip the treatment.”

Once inside the room, Mia finally found an opportunity to speak up.

Mrs. Gallagher looked at her with surprise. “Your skin is sensitive, too?”

‘Too?*

“It might just be because I recently arrived in Everett. I’ve had some mild allergic symptoms lately,” Mia said, catching the implication but choosing not to dig deeper.

Mrs. Gallagher hummed in understanding. After a moment, she said, “Then I’ll have someone brew a pot of tea for you. You can sit and rest here. How does that sound?”

“That works,” Mia nodded, taking a seat on the sofa in the lounge area.

Someone brought over rose tea and poured her a cup.

Mia thanked them and took small sips, looking for the right moment to excuse herself.

Mrs. Gallagher lay on the treatment bed, her eyes closed as she enjoyed the beautician’s massage. She kept the conversation going with Mia.

‘Mia, have you adjusted well to Everett these past few days?”

‘Well enough,” Mia replied.

‘I heard Northbrook gets incredibly cold. I went there once about twenty years ago. It was snowing heavily. The scenery was beautiful, but the temperature was too low for me to handle.”

Mrs. Gallagher gave a bitter smile. “I haven’t been back since.”

You don’t feel the cold once you’re used to it,” Mia said.
