Chapter 322
Compared to Mia’s bluntness and calm, Mrs. Gallagher seemed unusually agitated.
Why not look? Do you blame them for losing you?”
Mia froze.
The lights in the room suddenly brightened as another beautician entered.
Mrs. Gallagher snapped out of it, the corners of her lips twitching into a smile.
Sorry. I’ve been sponsoring a ‘Child Come Home’ charity for years. We specialize in helping find lost or trafficked hildren. Seeing how devastated those parents are makes me anxious. I just thought… your parents might be very
nxious too.”
You’re very kind, Mrs. Gallagher.”
Mia thought back to the conversation she had overheard earlier about Mrs. Gallagher abandoning a baby girl.
she didn’t know if it was true, but right now, Mrs. Gallagher certainly seemed very emotional about her being an
rphan.
After a long while, Mrs. Gallagher spoke again.
It couldn’t have been easy for a girl to reach your position in the business world. It must have been a very hard
oad.”
Mia smiled faintly. “I was lucky. I had the right boss.”
he couldn’t deny it: everything she had today was thanks to Ethan.
That’s good. Being on your own is fine. As for family… maybe it’s better not to look.”
Mrs. Gallagher lay back down and let the beautician remove her mask.
Mia continued sipping her tea until her phone buzzed. It was a message from Ethan.
She took the opportunity to set her teacup down and stand up. “Mrs. Gallagher, I have some work to handle, so I’ll lave to excuse myself. Thank you for the invitation. I’ll see you another time.”
Mrs. Gallagher was having her face treated and simply raised a hand in response.
Mia grabbed her bag and walked out. Her footsteps gradually faded into the distance.
Once she was completely gone, a long sigh echoed through the room.
Mia didn’t open her phone until she was back in the car. To her surprise, Ethan had already retracted the message.
She sent back a question mark.
On the other end, a phone pinged. Ethan was standing by the window with a cigarette. He walked back to his desk.
He tapped on the chat and stared at the single question mark for a few seconds.

Chloe Bennett pushed the door open. Smelling the smoke, she couldn’t help but frown.
“Leo told me your stress levels have been high lately and that you’ve been smoking and drinking a lot. Is the
workload too much?”
She placed a thermos on his desk and turned to face him directly.
“It’s fine.” Ethan crushed his cigarette and sat down. “Haven’t you gone to look at the hotels yet?”
“Miranda had something come up. We’re going tomorrow instead,” Chloe said.
She bit her lip, looking at his cold, detached expression. After a moment, she walked toward him and held out her
hand.
A band-aid was wrapped around her index finger, and a faint trace of blood had seeped through.
“Ethan, it hurts so much.”
