Chapter 330
Nina’s eyes lit up. “I heard the Brighton Center headquarters is here in Everett. Can we go there?”
“Sure.”
With a few words of encouragement, Mia had Nina feeling energized again, happily chatting about their future shopping trip.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Serenity Postpartum Center.
Mia got out of the car, locked it, and helped Nina push Toby’s stroller inside.
A receptionist in a purple cotton uniform greeted them with a warm smile. She knelt beside Toby, cooing at the little guy as she spoke to them.
‘Are you ladies here to look at the center or to hire a nanny?”
‘We’re looking-”
“To hire a nanny,” Mia interrupted, cutting Nina off.
She scanned the lobby and immediately spotted Mrs. Gallagher exiting an elevator with a woman who looked to be in her early twenties.
The younger woman had long, wavy hair and was wearing a short skirt. Her belly was prominently rounded; she ooked to be quite far along. She was likely the Gallagher family’s daughter-in-law.
Nina, you go ahead and look. I see someone I know. I’m going to say hello.”
Mia gave Nina a pointed look.
Vina understood that Mia’s pregnancy wasn’t public yet. She nodded and let the receptionist lead her and Toby oward the nanny selection area.
Mia walked toward Mrs. Gallagher, who had already noticed her.
Mia? What a coincidence. What are you doing here?” Mrs. Gallagher asked, her eyes full of surprise.
I’m here with a friend to pick out a nanny,”
Mia gave a polite nod. “Mrs. Gallagher, we meet again.”
Mrs. Gallagher smiled. “You’re so young and unmarried; you shouldn’t have to be in a place like this yet.”
she pulled the pregnant woman closer. “This is my daughter-in-law, Serena Woods.”
Hello. I’m Mia Carter.” Mia nodded at Serena, taking the initiative to be polite.
Serena scrutinized Mia, her tone dripping with hostility.
Mia Carter. Ethan Hale’s secretary. I’ve heard quite a bit about you. Seeing you in person… you certainly live up o the reputation.”
Mrs. Gallagher immediately sensed the tension and lightly touched Serena’s arm.
See? Even Serena, who stays at home, has heard of you. You really are famous in the business world.”

She tried to play it off, attempting to diffuse the subtle unpleasantness Serena had brought to the conversation.
Mia was certain this was the first time she had met Serena Woods. Feeling the blatant malice coming from the woman, she followed the opening Mrs. Gallagher provided.
You flatter me. Like I said before, it’s all about working for the right person. I owe everything to Mr. Hale’s mentorship.”
Mia glanced at her watch. “It’s getting late. I won’t trouble you any longer, Mrs. Gallagher. Let me see you out.”
Mrs. Gallagher nodded and walked toward the exit, chatting as they went. “I saw the news online. Don’t take it to heart; the media just writes whatever they want.”
‘Of course not. I know exactly how the media operates.”
Mia saw Mrs. Gallagher to the door. Before she could say goodbye, Serena had already climbed into the car and slammed the door with a deafening bang.
Mrs. Gallagher frowned, glancing at the window before turning back to Mia with a strained smile.
‘Pregnant women can be emotionally unstable. Please, try to understand.”
They weren’t particularly close, and Serena’s unprovoked rudeness was a major breach of etiquette.
‘I understand. Don’t worry about it, Mrs. Gallagher.”
As Mia spoke, her gaze fell on a vibrant green emerald necklace around Mrs. Gallagher’s neck.
Your necklace is beautiful.”
Mrs. Gallagher touched the jewelry. “This is an emerald. I just bought it abroad last month. You think it’s pretty oo? We really do have the same taste. There was a matching bracelet in the same set. If you don’t mind, I’ll have omeone deliver it to your office.”
