Emerald was incredibly valuable. Even a simple necklace would cost at least six figures.
Mia Carter’s relationship with Mrs. Gallagher wasn’t nearly close enough to justify accepting such an expensive gift. Yet, she simply said, “Then I’ll thank you in advance, Mrs. Gallagher.”
“Don’t mention it,” Mrs. Gallagher replied, clearly understanding Mia’s intent.
Mia watched as Mrs. Gallagher got into her car and drove away before turning back into the postpartum care
center.
This center was the top tier in Everett, with the lowest packages starting at $100,000. Mia had no intention of staying there herself; she had only come inside to help Nina Torres screen a nanny.
Nina had taken a liking to a gold-star nanny, but she was hesitant about the $30,000 monthly salary.
‘The one in Northbrook only cost $20,000,” Nina whispered.
‘You get what you pay for. If you like her, let’s just do a trial period first.”
Mia had reviewed the nanny’s resume; she was experienced and had received glowing reviews from every previous employer. A good nanny was hard to find, and with Nina’s earning potential, she could certainly afford it. It was just that money was tight right now, and Nina was being frugal.
While Nina was still wavering, Mia pulled out her card and finalized the hire, paying the trial period fee upfront.
When Nina realized what happened, she was both moved and worried. “Mia, you’re going to need a lot of money
In the future. You should save it.”
Money can always be earned again, but we can’t let Toby suffer.”
Mia stuffed the receipt into Nina’s hand. “But if the nanny comes, she won’t be able to stay at my place. We need o make other arrangements.”
The duplex Bayview Holdings provided for her was only a two-bedroom. She couldn’t ask a nanny to sleep on the
loor.
Nina immediately said, “I saw an apartment for rent across the street yesterday. I’ll move there. That way, I’ll have a place to live and a dedicated space for my livestreams.”
Now that she had a nanny, she needed to get back to work and start making money.
‘Alright, let’s go check it out.”
After finishing the paperwork for the nanny, they took Toby back to the car.
Nina suddenly remembered something. “We didn’t even ask about the postpartum care for you!”
I’m not asking,” Mia said as she started the engine and hit the gas. “This place is too expensive; it’s more than we can handle. We’ll find somewhere else.”
“Then why did you bring me here?”
Nina had been very interested in this place when she first looked at options, but the cost had put it out of her

reach. She had planned to look at other places and only suggest this one to Mia if they couldn’t find anything suitable elsewhere.
“I had some private business to handle. It’s settled now.”
Nina seemed to catch on. “Was that woman just now the Mrs. Gallagher from the news?”
Mia nodded and gave a brief explanation as they drove toward another center.
Around noon, Mia received a call from Stella Lewis.
‘Ms. Carter, the front desk says Mrs. Gallagher sent over a bracelet for you.”
‘Have the front desk take a photo and send it to me.”
Mia hadn’t expected Mrs. Gallagher to be so fast.
