Chapter 332
The so-called “meeting” was just an excuse to attack her.
Mia didn’t reply.
She clicked through countless messages from Winston Henderson. The last one read: [Ms. Carter, hiding won’t help. How could Mr. Hale send a coward like you to take over the branch!]
Mia still didn’t reply. She kept the phone on silent and tossed it back into her bag.
She helped Nina rent the apartment across the street and spent the afternoon moving Nina and Toby’s things over. By the time they finished, night had fallen.
The two apartments were separated by a single road.
Nina sat on the steps in front of her new door, holding Toby, waiting for Mia to bring over Toby’s bottle.
‘I’ve suddenly realized that having a man around is actually pretty good,” Nina shouted across the street to Mia. “If either of us had a husband, we could have dragged him here to do the heavy lifting!”
Mia came out with the bottle, closed the door, and walked toward her. “Then why don’t you find one?”
Nina gave a cold snort. “If I wanted one, I could get plenty with just a wave of my hand. If they won’t work, they can at least give me money. Like Ethan-not divorcing him would have been fine, too. At least you wouldn’t have o worry about food or fun. In a situation like this, he wouldn’t move your boxes himself, but he’d pay someone to do it for you. It’s the same thing.”
Mia reached the door and looked at Nina sitting on the steps. Her footsteps faltered.
Nina’s opinions changed constantly. One moment, she’d say she wouldn’t want a man with no feelings even if he was a billionaire; the next, faced with physical labor, she thought money was all that mattered.
She was just talking, but Mia had lived through the reality of it.
After a moment of silence, Mia said, “A loveless marriage is just a waste of time. It’s better to split early so we don’t
old each other back. I’ve never once regretted asking for a divorce.”
More importantly, she didn’t want to stand in the way of Ethan marrying someone else.
‘Look at me, bringing that up again.” Nina lightly slapped her own forehead. “You’re right. No matter how good he ooks to others, if you don’t want him, you don’t want him. There are plenty of men waiting for you…”
She stood up and waved Mia over.
Mia continued forward and handed her the bottle. The two women entered the apartment.
The road outside was lined with two rows of magnolias. The thick, green branches obscured the glow of the streetlights. In the shadows, a figure stood motionless.
Only after they were completely inside the apartment did Ethan Hale step out from the shade of the trees.
His sharp, defined features were clouded with a dark, brooding intensity. He stared toward the apartment, his eyes incredibly deep.

Better to split early so we don’t hold each other back.
So that was her reason for the divorce. No feelings.

Ethan’s lips thinned into a straight line. His face was momentarily illuminated by a flicker of light from the apartment, showing eyes darker than the night sky.
“She was the one who suggested the divorce?”
In the darkness, Cole Preston moved slightly, his tone filled with surprise.
Ethan’s brow furrowed. He turned, pulled a cigarette from his pocket, and lit it.
