Chapter 362
‘Is he better now?” Nina asked, sitting back down.
Mia took off her coat and sat beside her, taking Toby into her arms. “Mostly. Lila is here now; she’ll look after
him.”
Nina dragged out an “Oh” of realization. “No wonder you didn’t bring him back. You’ve got backup. But why is it Lila? Where’s Ethan’s precious little fiancée?”
With the wedding date approaching, those two should have been inseparable.
At the mention of Chloe Bennett, the smile on Mia’s face faded slightly. “I don’t know.”
Nina took Toby back into her arms. “Whatever. Go wash your hands and change. We’re going to eat.”
Clara, the nanny, had already prepared dinner.
Mia went upstairs, freshened up, and changed into loungewear before heading over to Nina’s place.
Clara was a great cook, specializing in Southern-style stir-fry. Even Mia, who usually had a small appetite, couldn’t stop praising the food, let alone the food-obsessed Nina.
If you have time tomorrow, come to the mall with me to try on dresses,” Mia said. “There’s a banquet.”
Mia had to arrange Lila’s onboarding tomorrow morning, but she planned to leave early in the afternoon to
repare for the evening event.
Nina nodded. “Perfect. Toby needs some clothes for the change in season anyway. It’s still cool in Northbrook, but t’s basically summer here in Everett.”
Fine. But after we shop, I have to go to the banquet. You’ll have to come back on your own.” Mia looked at Toby. Can you handle him by yourself?”
I’ll just have Clara come with us,” Nina replied.
Clara, who was feeding Toby his baby food, nodded cheerfully. “Sure thing. You young ladies don’t always know vhat fabrics are best for babies. I’ll help you pick.”
With the plans set, Mia headed back to her apartment after dinner.
Even though she had been run ragged until midnight for two days in a row, she found she couldn’t sleep once she vas tucked into bed. It was the beginning of June, and the Everett heat was already stifling, even at night.
The oppressive warmth kept Mia tossing and turning all night.
The next morning, she arrived at the office with dark circles under her eyes. She ran into Lila at the entrance, who was there to report for duty.
Lila was dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt and a knee-length skirt. Wearing two-inch heels, she stood there with a serious expression, looking a bit stiff and formal.
When she saw Mia, her eyes lit up, but she quickly suppressed her excitement to maintain a professional front.
Ms. Carter, I’m Lila Hale, transferred from headquarters. Please look after me.”

Mia found her “all-business” act quite funny. “We’ll look after each other. Come on, I’ll take you to your department.”
She led Lila to the eighth floor. The entire Public Relations Department consisted of about a dozen people. Knowing their new boss was arriving today, they were all sitting upright at their desks.
As Mia led Lila inside, the staff straightened their backs, discreetly sizing her up.
“This is Lila Hale, our new PR Manager transferred from headquarters. She has been with the main office for a long time and has extensive experience.”
“Ms. Hale is so young and successful!”
“She’s so beautiful!”
Standing next to Mia, Lila still had a bit of workplace naivety compared to Mia’s polished aura. But she played the part well, exchanging pleasantries with the team.
‘I look forward to working with all of you.”
After a brief greeting, Mia had Lila set down her things and grab a notebook for a meeting on the top floor. She needed to introduce Lila to the senior executives of the other departments.
Once they stepped into the elevator, Lila’s tense posture finally relaxed.
‘Mia, Lila whispered with a giggle. “You’ve been around my brother for so long, you’ve started to take on his shadow. Just now, seeing you get out of the car, I actually thought it was him.”
