Jaxon Rivers was sensible enough to know Mia Carter was pregnant. The weight he leaned on her was minimal, acting only as a light support.
Mia gripped his sleeve, her brow furrowed as if she were dealing with a major nuisance.
The two of them entered the apartment one after the other.
The lights on the first floor flickered on, making the interior as bright as day. Outside, the light dimmed significantly. From the shadows on the roadside, a figure stood watching, almost invisible unless one looked :losely.
‘Sit down.”
Mia gestured for Jaxon to sit while she went upstairs to grab the medical kit.
laxon sat obediently on the sofa, taking in his surroundings. “I have to say, the apartment Ethan set you up with is
nice.”
Jsually, for someone in Mia’s position, the company provided luxury penthouses. While the interior space of this partment was similar to a penthouse, the amenities and facilities in this complex were among the best in Everett. By comparison, this was a step up in class.
Mia didn’t respond. She came back down with the medical kit and began treating his wounds.
I need to flush it with saline solution first. It’s going to hurt, so brace yourself.”
She sat on the floor, tilting her head to catch the light as she worked on the injury.
I’m fine. I’m a man-Sss! Dammit, that hurts!”
axon couldn’t even finish his sentence. The sting of the saline solution hitting the raw wound felt like his flesh was being carved out. His body shuddered, and he gripped the sofa cushions so hard he nearly passed out.
If it hurts, bite something,” Mia reminded him.
He pounded the sofa, his face turning beet red. “Bite what?”
Mia’s movements were swift and efficient. She didn’t even look up. “Bite your tongue. It’ll stop you from talking so much nonsense. You’re noisy.”
Jaxon let out a low growl, his hair practically standing on end from the pain. “I can handle it! They say a woman giving birth is like breaking ten ribs. I’m not going to be weaker than a woman!”
Mia scoffed, setting the saline aside and dabbing iodine onto his leg with a cotton swab. “Stay away from water for a few days. Be careful.”
As the sharp pain subsided, Jaxon relaxed. His vision, which had gone dark for a moment, gradually cleared. “But I still want to shower. I’m a clean man. How can I go without a shower?”
“Your leg is injured; you aren’t going anywhere,” Mia countered. “No matter how clean you are or how good you look, no one’s watching.”
“But I-”

go out, no one would notice you,” Mia interrupted. “But if you die from an infection, plenty of people will notice.”
Jaxon glared at her. “I know you’re still holding a grudge, but you shouldn’t stab me in the heart when I’m at my
weakest.”
“If I really wanted to stab you, do you think I’d stop there?” Mia rolled her eyes at him.
