Chapter 400
The lights at the entrance were bright, and a few people were still arguing over liability. Through the shifting crowd, she could see that the Cullinan was gone.
“Whew…”
Mia let out a long breath. But before she could finish exhaling, a voice suddenly came from behind her.
“Why didn’t you drive back?”
Jaxon Rivers was standing there, dressed in a neon green tracksuit. The sport watch on his wrist emitted a faint, pulsing glow.
In the darkness, he looked like a glowing orb. Mia jumped, instinctively taking two steps back.
“It’s me,” Jaxon said again.
Mia squinted. “Jaxon?”
“I asked you a question.” Jaxon sat down on the curb.
Mia kept it brief. “I was in a minor accident yesterday. The car is in the shop. It’ll be a couple of days.”
“An accident?” Jaxon stood up and walked over, scanning her from head to toe. “Are you okay?”
As he got closer, the streetlights hit his face, revealing a dark bruise just under the corner of his eye.
“I’m better off than you,” Mia noted, looking at the injury. “What happened to you?”
Jaxon bared his teeth in a pained grin. “I was night running and fell into a ditch. I just crawled out.”
He turned slightly. His neon green clothes were covered in dirt, and his knees were scraped and seeping blood.
Mia winced. “Why on earth are you running in the middle of the night?”
“I always run at night. I’m just not familiar with the area yet and missed a warning sign.” Now that the injuries were exposed, Jaxon stopped pretending. He limped back to the curb and sat down. “It took me ten minutes just to stand back up. Damn, that hurts!”
Mia pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight. The blood on his shin was starting to dry, but as he moved, the wounds reopened, and fresh blood began to ooze out.
“Should I take you to the hospital?”
Jaxon shook his head. “No need. I sent a photo to a doctor friend. He said I just need some iodine and a couple of days of rest.”
Mia turned off the flashlight. “Then go home and put some iodine on it. Stop wandering around.”
“I don’t have any at home. I was just heading out to buy some.” Jaxon hesitated.
Mia looked at him, remained silent for a few seconds, then said, “I have some at my place. Come with me.”
“Really?” Jaxon stood up, stumbling as he tried to keep up with her. “I thought you were still mad at me.”
Mia didn’t walk fast, but Jaxon was still struggling. She slowed her pace even further.

“Being mad is one thing, but we don’t have a blood feud. I’m not going to leave you to rot.”
Vrou
There were no pharmacies nearby. Even if Jaxon walked until his legs gave out, he wouldn’t find one tonight.
“Beautiful and kind. That’s the only way to describe you,” Jaxon teased. “How are you adjusting to Everett? Do you need me to help with anything?”
“No, thank you. If you really want to help, just go back to Northbrook as soon as possible.”
“I’ll leave when Ethan does,” Jaxon said without hesitation. “I’m not just here for the show. I’m here to help you deal with him. Once he’s gone and the danger is over, I’ll leave too.”
Mia glanced at him and saw a hint of genuine sincerity in his eyes.
