Everything Chloe just heard was just Mia’s side of the story.

Chloe had no proof. Reality hit her hard.

“I knew it! Why would Ethan want her around? That woman is so manipulative. I almost went and picked a fight with Ethan. We would’ve just ended up arguing again.”

Miranda tried to calm her down. “Chloe, just focus on your relationship with Ethan. I’ll take care of Mia. Stop fighting with him. You know what his temper is like…”

Ethan had already hit his limit when he blew off work to chase Chloe down and apologize in public.

Chloe knew that. That’s why she was the one who had to swallow her pride and back down after their last fight over that text message.

Mia had been driving slowly. She caught Chloe pulling out her phone to make the call in the rearview mirror, and only then did she finally floor it.

Mia showered and crawled into bed, reaching for her phone.

Nina was on FaceTime with her. Seeing how drained Mia looked, she let out a heavy sigh.

“Even if you weren’t married to Ethan, you should’ve quit a long time ago. That workload is insane. No normal person could handle it, let alone a pregnant woman.”

Mia’s stomach did a slow roll. Her morning sickness had been hitting hard lately, and she was only keeping it down

The nausea had finally stopped, but her appetite was still non-existent. She couldn’t force down a single bite.

“Mrs. Hale,” Mia said, standing up and giving a small nod.

Miranda’s face was tight with anger. She sat down and went straight for the throat. “Mia, I tried to give you the easy way out, but you’re clearly not taking it. You’re really choosing to do this the hard way, aren’t you?”

You’re giving me too much credit.” Mia’s lips curled into a faint, bitter smile. “I’m just a regular person. You could ruin my life with a flick of your wrist. I’m not stupid enough to think I can fight power like yours. I have no reason o lie to you or Chloe.”
