But no matter what she said, Ethan stayed silent.

The rest of the drive back to the Hale estate was dead quiet.

Ethan killed the engine, got out, and headed straight into the house.

“Fine, keep playing tough. I know you won’t just leave Chloe hanging,” Miranda muttered, watching his back. She pulled out her phone and called Sandra Bennett. “The engagement party is in ten days. Ethan’s swamped with work, so he told us to just handle the details ourselves…”

Quitting was the only thing on Mia Carter’s mind. It felt like a weight she couldn’t shake.

She tossed and turned all night, dreaming that she was trying to leave but kept getting pulled back.

Then the dream shifted. Suddenly, she was already in Emerald Bay with Nina Torres, finally free.

Her alarm blared twice the next morning before she finally heard it. She scrambled to get ready and rushed to the office, punching the clock at exactly 8:59 AM.

She grabbed her two soft-boiled eggs and headed toward her desk.

But Zoe Parker was already there, lounging in Mia’s chair and spinning around like she owned the place.

Mia set her eggs down on the desk and stared Zoe down.

Mia actually laughed. The sheer audacity of the girl’s tone was almost funny.

Zoe was a bottom-tier intern who hadn’t even passed probation yet.

Watching her try to boss Mia around was like watching a clown show.

Mia’s sharp look made Zoe flush with embarrassment.

‘And you brought breakfast to your desk? Ms. Carter, you work for Mr. Hale. How can you be so careless about

the rules?”

Zoe choked on her words, her face turning red.

Mia dropped her bag on the desk and flicked her gaze toward the chair, signaling Zoe to get the hell up.

“That was before!” Zoe snapped. She slammed a termination agreement onto the desk and shoved it toward Mia. “Sign it. You’re done. You’re not Mr, Hale’s secretary anymore, and you’re definitely not part of Bayview.”

Mia’s eyes flickered when she saw the document. She grabbed it and flipped straight to the last page.
