Chapter 482
“Would I lie to you? Newborns are fragile. You can’t touch them.”
The guard watched his every move. “Stop the bullshit. Unwrap the blanket!”
“Boss, he’s lying,” another man chimed in. “My kid was naked when they weighed and measured him. They only wrap them afterward!”
The lead bodyguard marched toward Cole. “Hand over the child-”
Before he could finish, Cole grabbed a nearby tray and hurled it at them, then bolted toward the OR exit with the baby in his arms.
“Stop! Grab him!” The guards swarmed. The operating room descended into chaos.
Hampered by the small bundle in his arms, Cole was no match for the professional guards. He was cornered before he could even reach the door.
“Give me the child!”
“Do you have any idea whose child this is?” Cole snarled, shielding the baby with his body. “If you touch him, you’re dead!”
He refused to let go. Afraid of hurting the infant, the men didn’t dare snatch him by force. They reached a violent stalemate in the corner.
The doctor suturing Mia didn’t dare look up, his hands trembling as he worked.
In her haze, Mia felt like she was dreaming. She heard a baby’s cry, the sound of an argument, and the clatter of falling equipment.
She fought to open her eyes, but her vision was a blur. Silhouettes shifted-doctors in green scrubs and shadows in
black suits.
“Hit him! Beat him to death!”
Cole eventually succumbed to the numbers. The baby was snatched away as the others swarmed Cole, kicking and punching him in the corner.
“Take the child and go…”
Mia’s eyes snapped open. “Where’s… where’s the baby?”
Her words were slurred, her voice so weak she could barely move her lips.
“The incision is just finished. You need to rest,” the doctor said, his eyes darting toward the chaos across the room.
The baby wasn’t with her. She couldn’t even hear a cry anymore. Instead, there was only the sound of a struggle. Instinct told Mia something was terribly wrong.
But the anesthesia hadn’t worn off. Opening her eyes was already a massive feat of will.
She desperately tried to follow the doctor’s gaze, but she couldn’t turn her head.
The sound of heavy thuds and muffled groans filled the air.

Before Mia understood what was happening, a tear rolled down the corner of her eye. The searing heat of it felt like it was burning her skin, turning the corner of her eye instantly red.
“Where… where is my baby?”
She raised a trembling hand, catching the hem of the doctor’s scrubs.
The doctor opened his mouth to speak, but a thunderous crash cut him off.
‘BANG..
“Oh my god!”
Terrified, the doctor shook off Mia’s hand and ran.
Mia’s fingers curled into a weak, pale fist before falling limply to the edge of the bed.
“What the hell are you doing?!”
“The child… I…”
