Chapter 67
Mia pulled out her phone and unblocked his number right in front of him.
“Now, add me on WhatsApp.” Jaxon held his phone out to her.
Within seconds, the biting wind had turned Mia’s fingers a raw, stinging red.
She didn’t want to linger. She pulled up her WhatsApp QR code and let him scan it.
[axor scanned it and sent the friend request.
She didn’t even wait to hit accept before shoving her phone back into her pocket.
‘It’s late, Jaxon. Go home and get some rest.”
She turned and walked toward her car.
Jaxon caught up with her in two long strides. “Let me drive you. My car is faster.”
‘I don’t like things moving too fast,” Mia said. Her face was frozen stiff from the cold; she couldn’t even force a fake smile. “Go home, Mr. Rivers.”
She pulled out her keys and picked up her pace.
laxon could have caught her in two steps, but a sudden, blinding flash caught his eye.
He squinted toward the shadows across the street. Someone was standing there, camera in hand.
The second the guy saw Jaxon looking, he bolted.
‘Shit! Which tabloid is it this time?”
[axon cursed. He forgot about chasing Mia and sprinted across the road.
But he was a second too late. By the time he reached the other side, the guy had vanished into the night.
On the other side of the street, Mia’s car was already pulling away.
Fuck!” Jaxon snapped, kicking the lamppost in frustration. Thud. He immediately started hopping around, clutching his foot in pain.
Mia saw him hopping in her rearview mirror and actually let out a dry laugh.
Before this, she’d only known Jaxon from a distance. To her, he was just the guy who tried to pressure her into drinks at business events. She’d never really dealt with him personally.
But after the last few days, she realized he was,.. complicated. He was annoying, yet somehow not. It was a feeling she couldn’t quite put into words.
It had been a long day, and the pregnancy fatigue was finally catching up to her. She was drained.
Once she got home, she took a hot shower and passed out the second her head hit the pillow.
While Mia was sound asleep, the internet was blowing up.
A massive leak had hit the Horizon Project, the crown jewel of the partnership between Bayview and the Bennetts.

The moment the files went public, the tech world went into a frenzy. People were floored by Bayview’s cutting-edge tech, but at the same time, they were shocked.
Bayview had been played.
At 4:00 AM, Mia’s phone started screaming. She was dragged out of sleep and ordered to the office immediately to stand by.
She ended up in the same conference room as yesterday, but the vibe was different. The air was thick enough to
choke on.
Even Leo had been hauled in. He was still in his loose pajamas, with layers of gauze visible on his chest.
Ethan sat at the head of the table, mid-call. “Fine. If you don’t believe me, I’ll tear Bayview apart and vet every single employee myself. I’ll give you an answer.”
He hung up and tossed his phone onto the table like it was trash.
