Mia was just being logical. Plenty of people were jealous of the Bennett Group for having Bayview’s backing.

Besides, the people Derek Bennett had on this project were all rookies. It was way more likely that a new hire had flipped than one of Bayview’s veterans.

“Mr. Hale, my team pulled all-nighters for weeks to get this done!” Mr. Gonzalez stood up, his voice cracking with emotion. “This data is more important to us than our own lives. No one here would ever leak it!”

He looked Ethan dead in the eye, desperate to prove their loyalty. “If you’re just putting on a show to appease Derek: Bennett, we can deal with that. But if you actually think we did this? Then Ms. Carter is right it’s a slap in the face.”

Ethan’s voice was ice. “So far, Derek Bennett is the only person at his company who’s even seen the files.”

The deal had been finalized for a while, but the classified data hadn’t been shared internally yet.

Derek Bennett hadn’t made up his mind on who would lead the project, so the files were still under lock and key.

Suddenly, the room went silent. It felt like a phantom hand had tightened around everyone’s throat.

“Leo, trace the source of the leak,” Ethan ordered. “Follow the trail. Nobody covers their tracks perfectly.”

Ethan leaned forward, fingers interlaced on the mahogany desk. His voice was low and dangerous. “Until we have a name, nobody leaves this room.”

Leo nodded immediately. “On it, Mr. Hale.”

Outside, the sky turned a pale, dusty grey as dawn broke. The city streets began to hum with morning traffic, but the conference room remained in a state of deathly silence.

Two hours crawled by. Leo hurried back in, looking grim.

“Mr. Hale, we traced the leak to the East Side. The person behind the upload is definitely with Riverside.”

“Since when does Riverside play this dirty?” Mr. Gonzalez snapped, his face flushing with rage. “They’re using our blood, sweat, and tears as a sacrifice for their own gain!”

Ethan narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp and cold. “And?””

“That’s all we have for now. But we’re pulling records to see who’s been in contact with anyone from Riverside. Once we find the link, we’ll have our mole.”

The word mole hung heavy in the air.

Mia’s heart skipped a beat. Contact with Riverside…

She had just met Jaxon Rivers yesterday. Did that count?

If having contact with the enemy was the only criteria for being a traitor, she was dead meat. She’d never be able to clear her name.
