Chapter 69
Miranda Hale marched toward them, a group of board members trailing behind her like a hit squad.
She didn’t say a word. She just walked right up to Mia, swung her arm back, and CRACK. She slapped Mia so hard her head snapped to the side.
‘Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused for Bayview?!”
The accusation came fast and loud. Miranda wasn’t looking for answers she was pinning the whole damn mess on Mia then and there.
The slap caught Mia off guard. She clutched her burning cheek, her ears ringing and her head spinning.
The Bennetts lost a fortune because of you! You’re a total disgrace!”
One slap wasn’t enough for Miranda. She raised her hand again, swinging hard for the other side of Mia’s face.
Mia flinched, squeezing her eyes shut. She braced for the impact, but it never came.
Her lashes trembled as she slowly opened her eyes.
Ethan stood like a wall in front of her. He had grabbed Miranda’s wrist mid-air, stopping the blow.
His face was grim, a cold fury burning in his eyes.
We’re at the office,” he snapped.
Miranda jerked her hand back, staring at him in shock. “She screwed up big time! Are you seriously going to protect her after what she did!?”
The investigation isn’t over,” Ethan said coldly. “Even if she’s guilty, I’ll be the one to handle it.”
Ethan stood his ground, radiating a cold authority that didn’t waver even with the board members watching him ike hawks.
Miranda’s face twisted in frustration. “Don’t be ridiculous! The board is right here! Do you really think you can just sweep this under the rug? I have proof!”
She reached into her bag and slammed a stack of photos onto the desk.
Every single one showed Mia with Jaxon Rivers.
Mia’s heart sank as she looked at them. They had caught everything: her visiting Jaxon in the hospital, bumping into him during her prenatal checkup, and Jaxon waiting for her outside Bayview last night.
One photo had been zoomed in a clear, incriminating shot of Mia handing Jaxon a sealed envelope.
“Mia, Mr. Hale has been nothing but good to you. How could you stab him in the back like this?”
“How the hell are we supposed to explain this to the Bennett family now?”
“If the deal with the Bennetts falls through, Ethan will be the first one to make you pay!”
The staff from the Project Department piled on, their voices thick with resentment. The wave of accusations was enough to drown her.

Mia instinctively looked at Ethan.
His expression was a stone mask as he picked up the photos, flipping through them one by one.
“It’s not what it looks like. I ”
Mia’s voice caught in her throat. She tried to explain.
The proof is right there!” Miranda snapped, cutting her off. “Don’t you dare try to lie your way out of this!”
Irrefutable proof. If these photos went public and she was charged, Mia wouldn’t just be losing her job at Bayview. She’d be looking at a prison sentence.
Her career would be over. Beyond that, Bayview would sue her into the ground.
It had only been two hours since everything started. There was no way Miranda hadn’t prepared those photos in advance. Mia didn’t buy it for a second.
Miranda was really going for blood. She was even willing to tank the Bennett deal just to get rid of her.
But then again, one lost deal didn’t matter. With Ethan in their corner, the Bennetts would always find a way to
come out on top.
As long as Mia was out of Ethan’s life, a little financial loss was a small price to pay.
