Chapter 93
Mia’s body was a ten. Combined with that sharp, drop-dead gorgeous face, she could make even the most basic outfit look like high-end couture.
Chloe’s eyes immediately hardened with suspicion.
Under that stare, Mia felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
Ethan checked his watch and set his work aside. “What are you hungry for? I’ll have room service bring it up to the suite.”
I want to go down to the restaurant with you.” Chloe finally looked away from Mia, her voice shifting back to that sweet, clingy tone.
Fine” Ethan stood up and grabbed his phone off the desk. “Keep at it.”
Those last three words were directed at Mia.
Mr. Hale, I’ll finish this in my room. I’ll have everything ready by tomorrow morning.”
Mia stood up, stacked the files into her laptop bag, and bolted out the door without looking back.
Ethan let out a low grunt, his dark eyes tracking her as she practically fled the room.
That night, Mia ordered room service.
She was laying low on purpose, but you can only hide for so long when there are clients to meet and deals to close.
The next morning at ten, Ethan shot her a text: Meet at the hotel entrance.
Mia changed into a fresh button-down, grabbed her briefcase, and headed out of the suite.
Mia stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the first floor. As the doors started to slide shut, a hand with ong, clean-cut fingers suddenly blocked them.
‘Wait up!”
[axon Rivers rushed in, panting for breath. “Mia? You weren’t trying to lock me out on purpose, were you?”
Mia backed into the corner. “No.”
She really hadn’t seen him.
If she had, she would’ve slammed that button way faster.
“Why are you so bundled up?” Jaxon hit the lobby button and turned to eye her.
She had buttoned her shirt all the way to the top and was wearing a mask, though she’d pulled it down to her chin just to hide her neck.
Mia cleared her throat. “I’m coming down with something.”
“Then call out sick and go rest. Ethan can handle things on his own.”
When it came to work, Jaxon thought Ethan Hale was a straight-up machine.

He never missed a chance to talk trash about Ethan right to Mia’s face.
Even when she didn’t give him a single word in response.
The doors dinged open. “See you,” Mia said, rushing out.
Ethan was the only one in the Cullinan parked at the hotel entrance.

The window was halfway down, framing his sharp profile. He looked cold, distant, and completely out of reach.
Mia pulled open the back door and slid inside. Before she could even pull the door shut, Ethan spoke.
‘Get in the front. It’s easier to talk work.”
He hadn’t brought any of his usual staff; it was just the two of them in the car.
Mia saw that, and it made her want to keep her distance even more.
She hesitated for a few seconds before finally sliding into the passenger seat.
The faint, clean scent of sandalwood filled the cabin. Ethan’s long, lean fingers gripped the wheel, his eyes straight ahead.
He didn’t say a word. Mia had no idea what “work” he wanted to discuss, so she just sat there and waited.

As the car pulled away from the hotel entrance, she caught a glimpse of Jaxon in the rearview mirror, craning his neck to watch them leave.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he glanced at the mirror. He floored the gas. “Fix my seatbelt for me.”
What?” Mia turned and realized he wasn’t buckled in.
She leaned over toward him, her head almost buried in his chest before she could grab the belt and pull it across.
At that exact moment, the car swung into a turn, giving Jaxon a clear view inside.
From his angle, it looked like Mia was snuggled deep into Ethan’s lap, and Ethan’s raised arm made it look like he was pulling her into a tight embrace.
Jaxon’s eyes widened. He tried to get a better look, but the Cullinan pulled a U-turn and disappeared from sight.
He stood frozen for a few seconds before letting out a sharp, mocking laugh.
With a wild, arrogant look in his eyes, he turned and jumped into his own car, tearing off in the same direction they went.
The second Mia got close to Ethan, her mind flashed back to that kiss from last night.
Mia Carter bit her lip, holding her breath until the seatbelt clicked into place. She immediately scrambled back into her seat.
