The first to look up was a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses. When he spotted Virginia behind Valentin, he nearly dropped his cigar.

"Whoa!" He took off his glasses, wiped them in an exaggerated, punchable manner, and put them back on to make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks. He then winked at the rest of the group. "It's rare for Valentin to bring a girlfriend. First time for everything, huh!"

The entire table looked over in unison, eyes brimming with curiosity.
